My son is interested in the SIG P320 and asked me if I had any experience with or opinions of the brand and that model in particular. All I know is some SIGs have/had a reputation for accidental discharges but don't know anything about the validity of the complaint.

I thought I would ask the THF.

Anyone own a SIG P320 or have opinions good or bad?

yes, very modular and customizable pistol. I have one in 357sig.

I have the 320xc that I gave my son. We shot it few weeks back and it shoots fine but didn’t draw from a holster so can’t comment on said accident discharge. Cycled all the HP we had. A little wide for me but it was a backup. Nothing special just like other 9mm.

From what I've seen in person, the 320 is the only polymer framed gun from a major manufacturer that I would not buy. And I used to think I really wanted one. That's not even counting the dropped discharges, and alleged in the holster discharges that I have not seen personally

Just about the same as our M17. I like it better than the M9 Beretta, but still not at the same level as a Glock. The Sig seems fat in the hand and the ergonomics feel "off."

Edit to add: the Sig also feels VERY stiff when racking the slide. Coming from my Glocks (and of course the M9 - even with new models of both), I wasn't really expecting to need to put that much azz behind racking. Of course, there may be some differences in the .mil version. Not too sure about that.

I made the move for work last summer to 320 compact size flat trigger and running an rmr on it. I carried g19 for the previous 15 years g 22 before that.

The drop discharges were on the first gens and the is a voluntary return and update thru sig. I can’t speak about the holster discharges but I have not had an issue nor has anyone I know that carry’s one. I like how it sits in my hand, fit is good.

Last week I took it thru the msp red dot instructor class w zero issues.

I will say that it is different from my glocks. Running same type of holster my draw is not as good as it was with the Glock. I also had to add a nub to have good access for the draw.

I am looking at trying out a walther pdp just fyi. I have no brand loyalty it just needs to work. I’d rather be running 1911/2011.

I was a big Sig 320 fan (currently own 4 and 5 other Sig pistols), until I shot a Walther PDP. Go to a range where you can rent all the popular pistols and see what he likes.

Sig as a brand is fantastic. Unfortunately the 320, M17, M18 seem to have been more of a “lets do anything to win this deal” situation. Pick up a 320 then pick up a P226, P229 and you’ll immediately understand. Pick up a P210 and you’ll wonder how Sig can make something so beautiful yet turn out a turd like the 320.

I think Sig as a brand was fantastic. Haven’t been for a least a decade.

I agree the 320 is a turd and their earlier steel pistols are fantastic.

You clearly havent run a slide on a new production P210 or run a mag through a current production MPX. Sig is still phenomenal, just in select areas.

All my 9mm experience is with multiple Rugers and an S&W so I appreciate your input.

I’m a big Sig fan, the 210, 220, and 226. I really don’t like the 320 unless it’s the 320x5.

If I’m buying a watch plastic gun it would be a Glock

Only sig I have is the p322. It’s a great little plinker though.

Only sig I’ve owned was one of their first Gen poly pistols think it was an 2022 or something like that. Everyone hated them I didn’t really mind it. But haven’t bought anything since.

I had a P320C and P320RX. They were not problematic, but nothing extraordinary either. I wouldn't even consider one today. I do like the P365 series, but really only for concealed carry. My only full-sized polymer pistols are Shadow System MR918s.

I have a p938 that I love, but it is not a plastic striker fired pistol, so, different animal. Wife carries p365. We didn't get her a Sig because of the sig name, she shot lots of different pistols and said that was the one she liked the best. I like it too, but it's a compact pistol, so, again, different animal. One thing I do like about SIG, is that they come with good night sights.

I have a P320-M17, got it just for the novelty of having same pistol as the military but it's a fun range gun especially for breaking in new shooters and a solid lightbearing home defense pistol, 22 rounds without being too unwieldy. There are definitely better guns out there but I don't regret buying mine.

Only SIG I own is a P938, which I like very much for EDC. It's been trouble-free, but if I was going to buy any more handguns I'd want to know how well the factory supports it. So, how about that?

I daily carry a Sig p320 compact with a TLR1 light, with an IWB holster - great pistol.
Carried glocks for a while - 19, 43x, 32/23, and sometimes a 17, but recently got a P320, and no complaints from a "glock-aholic"

I had a P320 "Compact" in .45.

Imagine a "Compact" handgun the same size as a full size Glock 21 .45 ACP.

It shot well and was reliable, but was just too big. It went down the road.

No 320’s for me

I had a P320 and liked it a lot. Then went shooting with a couple of buddies and he brought a M&P 2.0 9mm. We all shot it more accurately than the P320 or multiple Glocks we had there. I sold the P320 and now have a M&P. Nothing was wrong with the P320 I just shoot the M&P better.

Just bought a P320 XTEN, and I like it much better than the Glock G40 it replaced. Have a couple hundred rounds through it so far and am impressed by the shootability and accuracy. This is coming from a Glock fanboy from way back.

The M&P’s are great pistols! Just wish their shields were double-stack to hold more.
