Just like anything else; you need to know how to work cows. And “work” is a very comprehensive word. You will get kicked, you will get run at, you could be very seriously hurt. Usually, some of your blood will be spilled at some time. It’s not a place for Bud and Sissy to be in the pens. But, but, I love it.

I built a mile of 5 strand barbed wire fence with a neighbor last year, he didn't like the wire being stretched tight.
His reasoning, it wouldn't break if a limb fell on it. Yeah but if you tighten it, your cows stay in.


I've had a few experiences with gaucho. That stuff is from the Devil.

I don’t think they are completely stupid. They seem to patrol the fence line to look for gaps. They are certainly sneaky. When I went to the place I needed to finish up the fence this morning, there were cow tracks in yesterday’s Kubota 900 tracks along the fence. They had been there during the night. Stupid isn’t the right word, but I don’t know what is. There’s something going on in their dim little brains.

Well…they can walk the fence lines now till their hooves wear out. Ain’t no stinking gaps now. Honestly, I think this is the first time in maybe 3 years that the fence is this good. Desperate times, my friends…
