Years ago, I started my daughter on a BB gun. Then I bought her a Beretta 303 youth, 24" barrel in 20 gauge. The grandkids are shooting it now. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Beretta. 390, 3901 or the A300 in 20 gauge, with stock spacers and a 26" barrel. These will last forever and the spacer or a thick recoil pad can be added as the kid grows up. I always controlled the ammo until I was confident that they were shooting safely. Any infraction and she went back to the BB gun for more practice.

The thing about buying a Beretta over the other guns mentioned, (Tristar, Escort, ect.), is it will retain it's value. Price a used 303, 390 or 3901 today, if you are lucky to find one for less than &600 buy it.

Sorry I got behind on this thread been on a new work schedule throwing me off.
I’ve talked to my local gun dealer and he can get the escort but like stated by someone else that 13” LOP may be a little in comfortable for him for a little bit. He may have to start with a decent single shot or mossberg pump. I noticed a few guys offering some up I will go back thru and pm y’all. Thanks for all the suggestions but he may not be just ready for one of the semi autos for this year maybe next year

GW upgraded to an Yildiz after he started a lawn business and turned 10. He just doesn’t believe in wearing shoes. I’ve never had to buy him anything but flip flops in the summer. He has a pair of boots to wear to church. His 8th grade brother is 6’3” and civilized. This little guy only wants to hunt and fish.

if you go pump or single shot FIND those light 20 ga loads.

lessons are more important than guns now. both eyes open.

take his red Ryder bb gun, throw a can in the air, point and shoot, no aiming, move to charcoal briquets.

I'll say it, he's really too young, IMO dont kill the messenger.

He might change his mind if you hunt a field with sand burs.
