…is now a couple of “vent pricks” for the Lyle cannon I bought last year!

[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]

It’s used to make sure the vent hole is clear for the fuse and to prick a hole in the black powder charge for the fuse to be inserted into…

Also made a bore swab/ramrod and gathered a little “ammo” for a gathering of friends this coming weekend. This will be the first time I’ve been able shoot it….much fun is to be had!!!

This is the cannon. I had hoped to have a carriage made for it. I have gathered several pieces but just haven’t had time to work on getting it all put together….

With a maximum charge of 8 oz BP it could launch a 19 lb cast iron weight with line attached over 700 yards…

Standard charge was about 1.5 oz BP. I’m starting out with around 1/2 to 3/4 oz BP with a tennis ball… bolt

To be sure of hitting the target, shoot first and call whatever you hit the target.

So Jes... what are the chances the explosive charge pulverizes the billiards ball and turns it into a giant shotgun?

scared

Minimal from what I’ve researched….however, might shred the tennis balls before they leave the barrel….

Thinking about filling a few with silicone to make a “more solid” projectile… confused2

Have you shot it yet? Range report?

Some cannons are quite accurate, at least on the TV shows

Super Cool

First firing probably this coming Friday….pics and video to follow

Edit: this is a short barreled smooth bore cannon….not rifles artillery

This thing is going to make a lot of flame! A lot of smoke! And a bunch of smiles!
