I haven't shot all those listed but the most accurate slug gun I ever shot was a Single Shot H&R. They made them for a while with the 12ga built on a 10ga frame and heavier barrel while the 20ga was built on the 12ga frame. Sabot slugs 1.5 inches at 100 yards wasn't bad to me for a rifled shotgun barrel.

I had forgotten about those. I remember really wanting one when they were in production in the early Y2Ks.

What makes you think a Savage bolt action slug rifle won't be accurate? The savage slug guns don’t shoot Hornady SSTs worth a damn. They will group Remington accutips very well though but hard to find. I use a savage 220 bolt action shotgun on Ft Hood where we can’t use a rifle. Have killed many hogs and coyotes with it. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2023/02/full-23999-382429-d791e604_90f1_4cad_810e_47a4d2d6db4a.jpeg)

with a rifled slug barreled gun, can you only shoot sabot slugs? Nope, 2.5 ounce is the heaviest I’ve run across. I'm not familiar with this Savage. besides the Remington Accutip and Hornady SST, what else can you shoot in this gun?

Seemed like it was doing great work.

Speaking of slug guns. Recently I put two 12 gauge rifled barrels on two different 870's. Both shoot the Hornady Monoflex load very nicely, plenty good enough for 150 yard shots if 6 inch groups at that range will do it for you.

I spent a lot of my Navy career in VA and they have a lot of deer hunting areas that are shotgun only. So I got an HR slug gun with the rifled barrel. Mine really liked the Win Sabot slugs which were a 50 caliber bullet in a plastic sabot. That gun would group an honest inch and half group at 100 yards and it knocked the holy hell out of any deer I hit with it. Never tried it on hogs but I don't doubt for a moment that it would work well. Most of my shots were 75-100 yards. I'm sure if I had sighted it in for 150 it would have still been good but I just wasn't going to get a 150 yard shot in coastal VA.

I will be mounting his scope on his Shotgun/rifle Friday, then we will go sight it in. I'll report back on the results.

He would end up with a black eye trying to shoot that 12 gauge with slugs lol.
