I have used one for my 700. It was really not all that different than not having one. I used it when shooting PD's, and single feeding every round anyway.
About the only thing I noticed different when playing around with it....It cradles the round in the middle of the action. Where a magazine follower that staggers the rounds will have it offset to one side all the time. Possibly creating a situation of jamming a bullet into the case or blunting a tip on a SP round if the round doesn't find the chamber when you push on the bolt. When single feeding, I always start the round into the chamber to insure nothing gets snagged up on it's way in. It's just habit. So no real benefit that I saw.

Jay your extractor on your mauser will not allow this. also are pushing the cartridges all the way to the back of your magazine? if not then that might be the problem.
