Awhile back I was studying the 45 Super and decided I wanted to give it a go in my Kimber 1911. I purchased a 26# recoil spring, and left it on the shelf for about two years before I finally got around to testing ammo. Over the last couple of weeks, I have worked up a good load for my .45. I have a Lee 255 grain flat nose bullet, which I loaded over 6.8 grains of Longshot; this being the max charge for a standard 230 grain .45. I also loaded some 230 grain lead bullets over charges from 6.8-7.2 grains of Longshot, working my way towards 45 super load data. The result: a 255 grain WFN bullet coming out of a 5" 1911 at 925FPS. The 230 grain bullets did about the same velocity with the 7.2 grain charge, which I attribute to a reduced case capacity with the heavy bullets. Empty cases were ejected at the same location as my standard ammo. Groups were roughly 2" at 15 yards offhand. These loads are somewhere between +P and .45 Super. I am ready to give them a try on a critter.
The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

TC: I have that same Lee mold. Also have 24# Wolff springs and a Wilson flat-bottomed firing pin stop at hand. I need to shoot in my new Tisas before I go forward with the Super stuff. I am confident that Lee bullet can do good work at 900 plus. If more is needed I have the Blackhawk in .41.

I have not hot-rodded the .45 AUTO yet. I had that 255 grain Lee mold too but I used it for .45 Colt. Sold the mold when the .45 Colt SAA copy I had went away. I never tried it in my 1911 as I figured it might have feed problems. Mine was closer to 260 grains after cooling off then getting powder coated (old greased ones shown below). If I had known it would feed in the 1911 I would have kept it as a prefer a RNFP for defense anyway. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.ibb.co/NZ72qS2/092-BF892-0-AE8-4-DB4-853-D-27325-E4-AADA0.jpg) I have the 230 grain round nose mold I use for .45 AUTO. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.ibb.co/qBf89bm/296-D56-BD-B39-C-4-D8-A-946-F-5800831-E6-E27.jpg)

I don’t size them, just coat and load. That bullet is reliable and accurate in my pistol.

TC, how are these hot loads different from standard ACP loads in terms of POI? Does your pistol have adjustable sights?

You got my attention. I still size and lube but I’m following this. The lip stick bullets are kinda cool.

OP, I've got a 45ACP SBR (8" barrel) that I'd like to work up some 45 Super or similar loads for. Will be very interested in knowing what else you come up with.

I don't load "45 ACP".
I load .45 AUTO.
I haven't coated any .45's of any flavor yet. Guess I will the next time I get .45 AUTO bullets out.
Reminds me I need to sell off the rest of my .45 (not "long") Colt components.
Pass the gravy.

TC, how are these hot loads different from standard ACP loads in terms of POI? Does your pistol have adjustable sights? At 15 or so yards it was consistent with my regular 230 grain load. The pistol is a Kimber custom 2 with the Novak-style sights.

Manufacturer says that the chamber can fully support 45 Super or 45 SMC brass and can also handle the higher pressures of those loads. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2023/02/full-48636-381676-full_13826_161852_316679941_1793804337655864_8959699697512480160_n.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2023/02/full-48636-381677-full_13826_161853_316691611_1793804274322537_5604592368788124159_n.jpg)

Thanks. Sure would like to hear that with a suppressor. Yeah, have heard this from a few people. It's fun to shoot as it is, and I'm taking my time figuring out what suppressor would best suit this gun.
