Back in the 60's and very early 70's in Oak Cliff we played all kinds of pickup sports at the nearest open field which was usually behind the school. Had way to much fun playing in the creek, fishing, swimming and of course skinny dipping. Then there was having a good time popping wheelies on our bikes and If you can keep this thread about the good times you had growing up as a youngster

Tulsa OK. We were originally out of the city limits. Now its mid town. My best fiend lived on the corner. We all played there. Late 60's early 70's. We fished the creek and rode the motorcycle trails on our bikes.

1970's right here in Bosque County. Always in the woods or on the lake. I've come full circle.

My Dad was career USAF so I was in a lot of places and schools.
But, to me home was always my Gtandparents place between Muleshoe and Lariat.

Central Ohio, bout an hour north of Columbus. Corn fields during the summer and fishing the reservoirs, when we were lucky hit the lake (erie) for some yellow perch. Walked around carrying a bb gun and toy guns all the time, riding bikes all over and many times mon had no idea where we were but we always cane home, many time hust at dark or just after. Town small enough for a kid to ride anywhere, and no other towns close enough to bike to unless we planned for an all-day trip. Simple times.

Born in 1947 in Ferriday, Louisiana (the home of Mickey Gilley, Brother Jimmy Swaggert, and Jerry Lee Lewis). Grew up in Waterproof, Louisiana, a town of about 1500 folks. Rode bikes, played baseball and touch football, fished lots of places legal and otherwise, skinny dipped, shot rats at the town dump. A truly wonderful childhood. Taught to shoot and fix stuff by my Grandpa.
There’s no plaque where Mickey, Jimmy, and Jerry and I were born. The hospital is gone and a junk yard has taken it’s place. How sad…

Grew up in the 80s just outside Georgetown a few miles. Rode my bike everywhere and was big into racing dirt bikes. Dad hauled me all over Texas racing while mom and my sister held the fort down or went to dance competitions. Spent a lot of time on the lake skiing and wakeboarding and played select soccer up until I graduated. We also spent a lot of time at both sets of grandparents in Burnet. Riding bikes all around town, fishing creeks and stock tanks, hunting and camping. Dang those were some good times. I’d be scared to let my two boys roam around in todays world like I used to.

‘55 edition….Highland Park…spent our summers in Turtle Creek, fishing, catching tadpoles….on our bikes in Snider Plaza, Preston Center (barbecue at Salih’s), Highland Park Village (when it was fun), taking the bus by my self downtown to see my dad and grandfather at Titche’s department store (where we had our family business)….my mother had one rule during the Summer…..be home by dinner.
Grandfather had a farm in McKinney….spent days digging fence post holes and irrigation ditches…but the payoff was some Greta dove and duck hunting back in the early ‘60’s…now it’s all houses. Progress….I guess…

Tiny town of Smiley, TX, near Gonzales. Population 430. Everybody knew everybody's business.
Ride your bicycle anywhere you want, but don't call home asking to be fetched back unless you wanted a lecture. Rule was be home or call before the street light came on. Fishing and swimming in the creek.
We all need to practice Whoa more.

196Os, North Texas. Tagging along with my Dad and older brothers. Hunted, fished, explored and worked on dozens of places along the Clear Fork between Ft. Griffin and South Bend. Lots of days spent in those river bottoms. A BB gun and 22 were my favorite toys. Enjoyed my brothers hand me down bike. Loved the baseball and football games.

Born in 1984.
Ft. Stockton until I was 9. I was out all day riding bikes and shooting BB guns with a group of other kids. Tagged along behind my dad walking mesas and canyons looking for mule deer. Shot my first deer, a muley, when I was 9 with my great grandmother’s 250-3000 savage.
Brady, TX from 9-18 years old. Internet and cell phones weren’t a thing until I got to college. Was either hunting deer, hunting dove, fishing or camping on the San Saba river running drop lines.
When I was about 14 my dad had me working clearing fence lines and fields by hand with a grubbing hoe. Played sports and was a pretty darn good football player. Grew up with friends that I can still pick up a phone and call to this day.
Both sets of grandparents and parents with great marriages.
I am extremely blessed

Deep redwoods of northern CA through 1964, then southern CA beach through 2008 when my native Texan wife brought me here. I ain't leaving. Southern CA was a truly great place to be in the late 60s and early 70s.

Born in Brownwood in 1962 but we lived in Cisco. Our house burned when I was little and we moved to Ft. Worth (Haltom City). Had a great childhood and we visited kin folks all the time in the Cisco, Rising Star and Abilene areas. Dad raised coyote hounds and we were always meeting up with other houndsmen hunting either in the Cisco area or going down to Mexia. In the 70's we would meet up with 3-4 hunters, each of them would turn loose 6-10 hounds after dark and get after a coyote and run them hounds all night. Land owners then never said a word about it. My gosh if you did that now no telling what would happen.
Uprisings started or quelled, tornadoes rerouted, elections rigged.

Born 1948 Denton co. east of Lewisville just off hwy 121. Picked cotton hauled hay and did everything boys did on a farm back them. Live in Navarro co. now but still have the acreage in Lewisville. Have over 500 kinfolks in Denton co. A lot has changed in my 74 years. The 50s and 60s were the best years, but as kids we didn't realize it

My Older brother and I both fell in (as kids in Tulsa) when the edge of a sandbar we walking on collapsed. Current was swift but thankfully were both strong swimmers even as pre-teens. Early 60's.

Born in 1985. Raised on the family ranch in between Stephenville and Dublin. Hunted, fished, rode 4 wheelers, golf carts, horses and at 14 got my first ranch truck. Couldn't get on any public road but drove that thing everywhere else. Pretty much all my friends had big ranches or dairies and we hunted and fished all over the county. Went many times growing up to the Dublin Dr Pepper soda shop, back then you got several squirts of syrup and some carbonated water mixed in for a FRESH Dr Pepper. Still have all my family in Erath Co, it was a good place to grow up but I like where I'm at now better.

Moved from Wisconsin to Richardson Texas in 1966 when I was 10. We had good times up north. Farms on 2 sides of our neighborhood and a neighbor that dealt real estate. The family had 6 kids just like ours and the same ages except 4 girls and 2 boys which was opposite of ours. At one time he owned the largest cave in Wisconsin and we always had cabins up north to spend summer vacations at. Winter was fun with big snows. In Texas we had a big house that backed up to the 2nd hole on Canyon Creek CC. There was a creek running the golf course that had lots of fish and bullfrogs. Back then there were plenty of open spaces to roam and when not fishing in the creek or playing golf we were exploring the woods and fields. We normally had our Crossman pump pellet guns with us. I went to North Jr High and JJ Pearce.

Taylor Texas in the 60's. Played every sport I could, hunted with my Dad, had a neighborhood lot across the street from our house were kids would come from all over the neighborhood to play baseball, basketball, football, etc. Funny how from that one neighborhood there ended up with a number who were college athletes.
Road the bike across Taylor when I was very young to see my grandma - never had a worry - small town childhoods are the best IMO
