My nine year old grandson has a busy schedule with most all sports taking up his time and finally made his second hunting trip to our place in Madison County. The youth season ends tomorrow but he was able to take the doe this afternoon with the.243 that he got for his birthday. I’m pretty proud of him.

As adults we sometimes forget what such an experience is like through the eyes of child. Its a BIG deal to them and the smile on his face confirms as much.

Here goes…

We wake before the sun comes up,
My Dad and I to go on a hunt.
It's cold outside, the leaves are crisp,
They crunch under our feet with Dad in front.

The sun comes up, it's a windy day.
The cows in the field are eating away.
We were up in the stand so high,
I feel like I could reach the sky.

We were dressed in camo head to toe.
So that doe out there would not know.
With the pull of a trigger, there was a bang.
Holy moly Dad, I got that thang!
