I grew up in CO and there were some lakes with lots of pike. We used to catch them ice fishing. Great eating fish and if you filet them right you don't get any bones.

I grew up eating Pike...and it was always amazing! It's very light and flaky, similar to walleye if I remember correctly.

I had a friend from Michigan ( he passed 3 years ago) that brought me some pike filets, he would not eat pike. They were very good. I would take more anytime.

Need to catch them in cold water. Lots of little Y bones. There is supposed to be a way to fillet them to get rid of the Y bones but I always ate outside and just spit them out.

I thought Jacks were chain pickerel however local names are all over the map. If you live in NY a "pike" is a walleye" and a "Great Northern" is a pike. Go figure.

Jacks or blackjacks have always been chain pickerel to me as well. Caught a nice one behind the dam at little sandy when I was little.
I got these from a gent who goes to Michigan every summer. Brought back some okie and walleye in exchange for a whitetail. Walleye up next

For whatever it's worth in warm areas jacks or pickerel can be sort of "mushy" but in cold areas (Minnesota, etc.) they are firm and fry up very well.
