I have some 2 7/8 posts running about 60' down my driveway, every 10 feet where the gate is going. How in the world do you stretch barbed wire with metal pipe? In the past I have used 6" or 8" wood posts, so it was pretty straight forward, Termination knot, stretch, staple and term knot. Without a way to secure it to the post how do I secure this stuff so that its tight. I may be doing a terrible job explaining my problem but its got me pretty pi$$ed off at the moment. mad

EZ just stretch from H brace/Corner brace to H brace as you would with wooden posts. Between the metal posts, use wire stays to keep the wire together.
Metal posts are the only way to go.

Tie a come-a-long with a wire grip off the termination post and over tighten...then simply wrap the tail of the wire around the termination post (getting as tight as you can by hand) until secure. Release the come along and it should be tight.

Buy this.

Lest say you're anchored to your right, and you are pulling to your left.

Wrap a chain around the post you are pulling to. And leave about four links of slack.

Hook the stationary hook of your come-a-long inside the chain loop.

Pull out all of the come-a-long cable. The traveling pulley and hook will be to your right.

Put the wire grip on the wire and put the traveling hook inside the loop of the wire grab.

Pull to your heart's desire. The wire will be tight to the right of the wire grab, but slack between the grab and your anchor post.

Pull that slack out by hand and keep it tight while you wrap the pipe post (just above the chain anchor). And wrap the abrb wire two times around the pipe post, making a cross over X. Then wrap the running end of the wire around the tight wire 5 wraps. Slowly release the come-a-long tension and viola! You hav stretched wire onto pipe posts. Cut off the tail of the wire you wrapped around the tight wire.

Termination knot on each end and pipe clips on each pipe.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I am pulling and stretching like I always have, I think my issue may be with it being such a short run and the few amount of line posts which have ties on each of them, they aren't holding the tension well enough to keep it nice and tight.

After you stretch and anchor.

On the left side of the post, wrap the barb wire three times with tie wire. So I'm saying at 7 to 8 o'clock. Tie wire around the back of the post, and come under the barb wire at the 4 o'clock. Hold the wire super tight in Linemen pliers, pull toward you as well as skyward. Wrap the tie wire over the top of the barb wire. Keep a tight grip on the half turn of tie wire and roll it two more times. You will tighten the barb wire more, and suck it up tight to the post.

I usually hook the come along to the tractor and pull. I then use a large C-clamp to clamp the wire to the post. Then tie it off. Works for me.

Here is what we used and it worked great. Use a small light chain around anchor post or pipe. Make sure chain is not where you want wire to be tied off. Slip the wire into grab on tackle end. Pull wire tight (depending on temperature) and wrap end around post and staple, or pipe (2 time on pipe) and bring back and 5 wraps around tense wire. Release tension. On short runs with firm anchors you may have to add tension spring/ turn buckles to wire because it will be lose in summer and tight in winter. Attach springs to post or pipe on opposite end of termination on short runs.

With grabber on both ends it can be used in a broken fence to pull wire back together for spice without have to use anchor.
