This weekend is the annual TYHP hunt and it's being conducted in and around Gillespie County. This is my first year to volunteer to help with all that goes into the planning and running the hunt and other activities. From the list of hunters, I'm seeing almost half are girls, which is good to see. Maybe not all is lost with todays kids. They are the future of this sport we all love.

Great program no doubt. Lots of great people at all levels help to get youth involved in hunting. All is definitely not lost. Copperhead, thanks for doing your part.

Copperhead, thanks for getting involved with TYHP. I think you will find it to be as rewarding to the yourself as the kids, I know I did.

Thank you for volunteering. I did not know about the hunt till I drove by Saturday after dark. From the looks of the amount of vehicles, the turn out was huge. Lots of kids and lots of adults helping out.

This will be my first year guiding one of these hunts at the end of the month and really looking forward to it. My son actually drew the Bamberger hunt in early February, so I’ll get to be on both side of this program. Great way to wrap up the season.

My youngest daughter was drawn and were headed that way on Friday. She is a first year hunter and is so excited!

I have participated in a special draw OK youth hunt the last two years. This year they had 9 no-shows from those drawn. Some had decent reasons and some didn't. The director said he never had that many come off.
My hunters have been successful both years. I have been happy with them and their parents. Good people just trying to get into the sport.

Those are great for the kids. Supervised one for my G.K. several years back (Bamberg? ranch). At that time they said they didn't get as many kids as they could handle so sign your kids up. One adult per kid for liability (sit in the stand and watch) and they provided bunks and meals. That ranch has some really BIG deer! And a big price for guided hunting. Exotics were free for the kids if one happened to show up - hogs were free too and several were taken - and they were big too. They had a qual shoot @ 100 to start and very good weapon control - guide handed the bullet to the kid after the guide OKd the shot.

I volunteered for the San Saba youth hunt in Dec. It was a great hunt. We had 4 boys and 4 girls and when the tally was done, boys-2 girls-5. Way to go ladies!! A good time was had by all and I look forward to guiding another. The super hunt is this weekend in Gillespie County but I have duty and won't be able to attend. Should be a good weekend.

We got the email yesterday that my 11 yr old son was selected for the Cazadora Ranch hunt at the end of the month. He is very excited. He has done a good bit of hunting, but none of his friends hunt. We live in a suburb of Houston and the kids have so many activities, that very few hunt. We are doing this just as much for the social aspect as the hunting. I want him to see that more kids hunt than he realizes or that our suburb reflects. Looking forward to the whole experience!

Hope he enjoys the hunt. You'd be surprised at the number of kids in Houston that hunt, just don't say much about it to others.

Had an old platoon sgt tell me once " We train our replacements". This is true in every aspect of life. If we don't train the next generations of hunters who will? PETA and others are recruiting every day. Teach our side of the equation. Wishing the best of luck to all the hunters and volunteers.

My son participated in the King ranch hunt this year. Wouldn’t say it was the greatest “hunt” but we enjoyed touring the property. I’m impressed with the number of hunts this org puts on annually. Lots of opportunities to see different parts of the state. Will be guiding one of these hunts this coming weekend, which is always a good time.

I'm trying to have a small one each youth weekend (last weekend in October). 4 kiddos. 'Done it the last two years. Overall, a really good experience. TWA does a pretty good job with the vetting and organization.

Thanks for volunteering! My family has hosted TYHP in Gillespie for the last few years from Cherry Spring. Youth hunters took a couple does off the family place this year.
