Got one of the worst splinters in my life over the weekend.

It's still lodged in there.

It's like it plunged down to the bone and then snapped off.

Can't even see the tip it's buried so deep.

Any you guys know a good way to dislodge a buried splinter?

I'll get surgical if I have to but i'm hoping one of yall know a trick.

Get that sucker out before it gets infected even if it requires proper medical help.

I have seen videos where people cut the end off a syringe and use it to suck it out.....
no first hand experience.

Soak the area in epson salt, saw that on You Tube take it for what it's worth, let us know if it works. Like was said, don't wait till it gets infected.

The end of an IV catheter is actually ground into a blade. 16 or 18 gauge can get some work done on a splinter. Apply betadine arond the splinter, on your skin. And also wipe ofd your tweezers with alcohol. Open up the tissue around it and pull the splinter out with tweezers.

I've dug them out with a razor blade.

https://www.leaf.tv/articles/how-to-remove-a-splinter-with-bacon-fat/

Here are some simple home remedies that can help in removal of deep splinter,

Put a piece of bacon fat on the spot and adhere it with a tight band aid so that the wrapped bacon doesn’t slip out of position. Within the next couple of days the splinter will adhere to the bacon and be removed naturally. Instead of bacon fat one can also use a slice of potato, though this is not as effective as bacon fat

The body is amazing at what it can do, and it will spit that splinter out in a few days to a week or so, if it needs to. If it isn't going to bother then it will just heal up and not cause a problem.

The big thing to look for on infection is if the finger or toe is involved, you don't want to see redness and swelling start to migrate up or down the finger in a linear pattern. That can be a sign on tenosynovitis, a bad infection that can result in the loss of a digit. If the splinter is in a hand/palm/foot/sole, then it is just going to hurt and get worse until treated, but rarely would result in the loss of a hand or foot (diabetics can make this statement be a lie really quickly, so if you are diabetic be very careful with any advice you receive on this thread).

What is most liely to happen is you will get a localized swelling, puss reaction that brings the splinter to the surface and allows the body to expel it. If that happens, and the size is not enlarging, let it happen and let the body do its thing. Once the splinter is gone, the body will heal remarkably quick and you will be back to good before too long.

Just go to the dr and get it out, properly. You can probably just go to one of the doc-in-the-box places.

If the doc-in-a-box is only staffed with a Nurse Practitioner you will likely just pay them for a referral to the ER.

I have held ice on issues like that until about numb and then did what I needed to do with a needle, razor blade, tweezers, sweating, on and on. Clean with Hibiclens and put Neosporin in it.

similar example ... I stepped off my tractor back during Sept. and the side of my calf hit an old cedar stump, hurt like heck but didn't even bleed much. Wife looked at it but said didn't look like anything was in there but did a bit of digging with a needle. a week later, I had a knot the size of a hen egg and it was extremely sore to the touch and seeping clearish liquid. Started putting Neosporin and a band aide, changing daily, after a week still sore and swollen, switched to aloe vera and band aide, still nothing. Each time my wife would dig, DEEP, with a needle, but never found anything. Reverting back to my dad's miracle cure, Campho Phenique, soaked a cotton ball and put on with band aide, after about 4 days, the piece of stump started working it's way out to where my wife could do a bit more digging with needle and tweezers to get it out. We were amazed at the size of the chunk of wood that she pulled out ... all in all it was slightly over 5 weeks from time of injury to when we finally got it out.

^^^^ this...had one back in July in my thumb and in two weeks it was pushed to the surface enough that I could get it with tweezers. Ended up being a spot about 1/2 the size of a marble.

Let the ER and Dr's deal with people who really need them...yet we wonder why our healthcare system is so screwed up...people shouldn't be running to them for every like nick and ache. rolleyes I know, I know...good times create weak men. bang

And ya didn't run to the ER. Good for you.

Had a splinter one time from a golf tournament when I was in High school. I hit my ball in bush, it was a Par 5, didn't want to take an unplayable as I thought I could advance up the course a 100+ yards and reaching the green in 2 wasn't happening. So I took a 5i, punched the ball out but I had instant shooting pain in my R middle finger at the knuckle just under the finger nail. It bleed like hell. I looked and looked and didn't see any kind of splinter so I though I just cut it on that bush. A few days later I woke up to a pimple on that spot. Popped in and lots of pus came out, but no splinter. This went on for about a week, every morning would wake up and pop that finger. Went to the doc, he used a scalpel and opened it up, but said he couldn't see anything at all. Told me to keep an eye on it. No joke, this went on for 3 weeks, doc put in a ortho consult. So as I waited, one morning I woke up and popped the pimple again, but this time, I saw the beast. If I squeezed like hell, it would come up just enough that I could barely see it. As soon as I stopped squeezing, it disappeared. So I squeezed as hard as I could, my brother grabbed some tweezers and he pulled out what looked like the tip of a rose bush point and it was about 1/8 inch long. Finger was back to 100% by the next day.

Hang in there, the body will get rid of it after enough time.

This is crazy, man! I cut a slit but nothing was visible.

This was from a tree thorn too.

Dusty, is that your splinter as of today? If so, I would keep it open like that and just periodically squeeze it and allow it to fester some. It is not infected, and allowing some inflammation in that thing will do you some good.

Yes sir I was poking around in there and saw nothing,

Slapped a gob of brown draw-out salve on it and put a bandage over it.

Gonna be a long road....
