It would be easy to shoot a pig every day here, so targeting big boars makes it a challenge. Shot one with my my .308, 165 gr. SST, the other same area next day with my 7mm Rem. Mag, 162 gr. ELDX. Both at 201-205 yards, both dead right there. Right bullet in the right spot and they drop like a sack of feed. [Linked Image]

Several years back shot a hog down @ OSBWMA with my Kentucky .45.
Had forgot ta change the measure on my flask, (.44 revolver ta .45 rifle).
Roughly a 3rd grains less.

Anyways, hog popped outa the thick switch caim.
Touched the trigger, k- kpow. Smoke cleared, hog took off a running.
Started ta reload, checked area, looked like good hit, heart/lung.
So decided follow follow trail. Sure enough hog was down
Sitting up just like one in pic. Grabbed my phone, set on video. Eased towards it.
Got within foot of it & hog let out last breath.
Startled me a bit.

Thanks for sharing. Miss the hog hunts on Sabine.

Those are wooly boogers right there. Kind of makes me afraid they could survive up here.
Longer snouts and straight tails, maybe have some Eurasian in them. They sure are hairy enough.

Nice hogs taken !!

Two-hundred-yard shots aren't gimmes. Great work on a couple of worthies. I am new at this hog business -- were these guys around 200 or north of there?

I don't weigh them.

But when I was shooting 50-60 per year in East Texas I did. I would say that these two would be 205-215. These mature big panhandle boars are tall, long, big headed with heavy shoulders. They don't have the girth to make them heavier to be in that 250+ weight range. Food sources for ours is all free range. On 16,000 acres we have one feeder that spins 5 seconds once per day for hogs, our other four feeders all have pens to keep hogs out. That said, these big boars have to cover a lot of ground to maintain this size on natural forage. The Red River County boars I hunted could hang out in about 250 acres and load up on acorns, get fat and big and have weights way up there.

I'd sure love to hunt them in the Panhandle. My grandmother grew up on a ranch on the Canadian in a place called Plemons that isn't there anymore -- Hutchinson County. Somehow your description of these "tall, long big-headed" hogs is oddly satisfying. Thanks.

No, that is a game hoist that slides into the receiver of the Ranger. I modified this to clear the tailgate of the Ranger by adding 6" and doubling up on the interior of the receiver section to make it more rigid. I cut 1' off the mast. The tool box, I placed that under the bottom piece to support it under the heavy load that get exponentially heavier as the hogs swing away from the Ranger as I crank them up and lower them into the bed. Look at the very first picture. You can see the receiver piece with the mast removed. Find my post, "8 point". There are more pics' of the hoist and how I use it. It breaks down into 3 pieces.

Congrats. Like the cutters on those. They'd make decent European mounts.
