I know Honda is usually at the tops

What should a person look for when buying a generator? I would rather have a smaller or two.

Dual fuel?
What brands ?

Quiet and gas mileage would be a plus.

Go

Loudness, Portability, aux tank options, Parallel.

Fuel type really just depends on where and how you use it. Long term fuel storage propane/natural gas. Bulk buy for a season at deer camp, propane or diesel

2 Honda inverter generators that are capable of running in parallel is a very good gasoline choice

Preferably only run ethanol free fuel in them.

Natural gas preferably for your house

Dual fuel gasoline and propane is a very good choice as well

Personally I would determine what’s want to use it for and what my normal amp load is going to be and then go from there

Honda 2800i Generator/Inverter is what I have and love it.

18"x18"x18" and 75 pounds. I run ethanol free in it, and it fired up last week, after sitting for maybe a year.

I’d think it would be hard to go wrong with one of those Honda’s. They seem to have small motors down pretty good.

The fuel is the biggest issue. Mine hates ethanol.

I know Champion is not the Master Race choice, but I own two and they have never let me down. Quite a bit cheaper than Honda.

The little inverter generator is very quiet. It ran for several days straight during the 2021 ice storm and its run a half dozen weekends out bird hunting.

The bigger open frame is noisy as hell, but it is getting close to 1000 hours..

We all need to practice Whoa more.

Honda.
Keep em full of oil, and good fuel.
Not sure if Yamaha is still in the generator game but they're good as well.

The eu2000 have an easy carb drain. Takes two seconds I would assume the 2800 have same thing

I have a Westinghouse 9500w dual fuel I got for emergency outages. I tested it out and it ran the whole house. Only about 1900sq ft, but I turned on all the breakers one by one and it ran perfect for 3 hours I tested it.

Largest pull start (no dead battery when you need it) or pull/ battery start.

Have a Honda 3000is inverter that is 22 years old now. Same model they still sell today. I’d buy another Honda all day long. Super quiet and very fuel efficient (around 19 hours on 3.5 gallons of gas when in eco mode). FYI there are converters for a lot of generators out there to power them off propane, nat gas and gasoline. So I wouldn’t let the fuel be your choice.

Inverter generator is definitely the way to go these days on portables.

Predator is basically a decent Honda knock-off for half the price - will probably out-last you if you keep oil/gas fresh/clean, without emptying your wallet.

Got my eyes on grabbing one of these next time they go on sale - https://www.harborfreight.com/gener...with-co-secure-technology-epa-59303.html

The Subaru engine on my Coleman 6.5kW has always performed flawlessly. And while I'm sure it's not a quiet as a Honda of comparable size, it's much quieter than what I've seen from those with Briggs and Stratton or Kohler engines.

An inverter is way easier (cleaner power) on electronic equipment than one that is just a generator. If you get a gasoline one, run a good stabilizer mixed to the instructions to keep the gas from going bad. Even if you use ethanol free, put stabilizer it it.
We are looking for a smaller one to run the TV, Internet and aerobic system on and run the bigger on as needed to keep the freezer, refrigerator and water heaters going.
Get on that has a variable speed capability, our older one has idle or wide open no matter the load.

Two weeks ago a buddies Champion would not start. He purchased it May of this year.

It took a few hits of starting fluid to get it going.

Probably does. I turn off the fuel valve and let it run itself out.
