Looking for info from the experts. I love my 22-250 but it’s a pencil barrel browning so can’t cut any thread it so I’m told. Im thinking of building or buying another that will work with a suppressor but want it short as possible. I’m looking for something that is good out to 200-250yds. What say y’all?

Take Care,
Bub

A fast twist 223 probably makes more sense if you’re going to a 16 or 18 inch barrel.

You can cut the browning and thread it 1/2” if you have to. Add an adaptor to make it 5/8”. I’ve got several guns I’ve done it on. No big deal. 22-250 has more speed than the 223 too. My Tikka I cut to 17” and I’m pushing a 77 grain matchking 3200 fps.

Wouldn’t effect accuracy just speed. I had a 20” 22-250 Winchester had no issues.

1/8 twist or faster so you can shoot bigger bullets.

Browning makes a 1-9 18” 22-250 that’s suppressor ready

The better route is to get an end cap (if available) for your suppressor in 1/2-28. Then you aren't stacking tolerances, increasing the likelihood of striking a baffle in the suppressor.

You will just lose speed. The short barrel is the stiff barrel. The sine wave every barrel has, is reduced when the barrel is shorter. The stiffer the barrel, the broader range of powder charge it will shoot well.

If you tried to bend 1/2" rebar 4 foot long by hand, you probably can. If you tried to bend 1/2" 2 foot long rebar by hand, it is going to take a whole lot more effort.

Thank y’all. Yeah I have the direct thread adapters for my suppressors as suggested. I’m not a fan of the adapters or qd stuff for some reason. I do like the look of that browning bobo. Thanks for posting.

Take Care,
Bub

To answer your question late, couldn’t tell you. I cut it before I shot it. Load development at 300 yards and the first load I tried was 1/2 MOA. I ended up there.

I’m considering chopping 8 inches off mine, down to 18 inches and threading it for suppressor. I’m curious though how loud it’s going to be even with the suppressor.

It will be fine. My 7mm-08 A.I. is 17", and it's burning 10 more grains of powder than a .22-250 will.

The bore ID plays a huge role in end gas pressure.

Yes

And a 30 cal can on a 224" bullet is still better than no can.

Yeah I get that bore diameter plays an important role, but does speed of bullet have anything to do with the noise given both the 7-08 & 22-250 are both supersonic?

Very much super sonic.

I shoot my 24" 22-250 with a 75 gr at 3200 fps MV (Mach 2.84)

7mm-08 A.I. 162 gr at 2640 fps MV (Mach 2.35)

Check around and find you a Remington 788 in 22-250. You cut it off or thread it at the length it is.

some people like silver and gold
I like brass and lead with a little powder in between
