Harbor Freight sells small safes. I have had a couple for probably ten years now. Replace batteries annually and no problems.

I dont think Id trust anything at Harbor Freight for a life and death situation. 100% chinese crap, even if it happens to work. All the electrical handgun safes suck. Read the reviews. You’ll have a few guys say they’ve had one for 10yrs and it works every time but you’ll find 100 other guys say the opposite.
The most reliable and trustworthy handgun safes are those with simplex locks. V-Line, Fort Knox and some others make them.

I have one called the Brute by a company called V Line. Mechanical combination, easy to use in the dark. Heavy duty.

I have one that’s mounted to my bed frame. It’s made by Winchester and nothing fancy, but works. Press buttons in certain order and the lid flips open and has small light on inside. It did what I needed it to when the kids were small.

I would not call those safes...maybe a "lock box" would be better to describe them.
I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect. Some people live an entire lifetime & wonder if they ever made a difference in the world, a veteran doesn't have that problem. Reagan

I have a Barska biometric lock box. Much to my surprise, it has been perfectly satisfactory.

And if you buy a cheapo chinese one, a pry bar may end up being how you have to open it. At that point probably just better to defend yourself with the pry bar I suppose.

The HF safes I have come with a key to unlock them if the batteries die. I use mine to keep my carry guns out of reach of small hands, which is about all they're good for. If I used one of them twice per day for ten years, as a conservative estimate, I could say I've successfully used one thousands of times. I know it's been at least ten years because I bought mine when I moved into this house over ten years ago.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I suppose.

Another V-Line fan here. Easy to operate mechanical lock. No worries about batteries

I have a wall mounted Gun Vault Speed Vault. It might hold a glock 17 but probably not. Other than being loud, I like it.
