This rifle was brought up in my "lightweight" rifle quest.

Anyone have first-hand accuracy reports on one in 6.5 Creedmoor?

Aluminum action and bolt parts???

Looked on YouTube but no accuracy reports.

Saw this about a week ago on another forum.

https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/17856346/1/big-stick-seekins-rifles

You’ll have to dig through all the rabbit trails and personal insults but seems they can shoot 1/2 MOA.

The first rifle I ever built was on that action. It shoots extremely well and my Dad has it in his possession and has killed a couple deer with it. I plan one day I'll get rifle #1 back...I hope it's a long time from now.

The action has a sleeve in it that the bolt lugs lock into and then that sleeve locks into the action like a barrel extension on an AR (think that little pin that lock into the upper). I wouldn't personally buy another one because of the sleeve, it's their way of correcting tolerances within the action. Meaning there are better options out there. At one time I had pictures but not sure where they went to or if I can find them.

One other thing that if you are buying the rifle itself you won't have to deal with...the bottom metal game was a mess with that action and Seekins wouldn't sell me one of their BDL's they said they only make enough for themselves. I ended up having to go with a DBM Seekins and it wasn't what I wanted at all. So it now sports a 5 round AICS mag that hangs down below the stock. On this rifle, it just doesn't fit. That was my last dealing with Seekins and left a sour taste in my mouth.

The sleeve you’re describing sounds hacky. Maybe a case where mfgs need to stay in their lane?

The short action Element is a 5.5lb PRODUCTION hunting rifle priced @ $2700. I think it’s a great value considering a similarly specd custom would be closer to $4k from a company such as APR.
It’s not a target rifle.

My sample of one shows consistent 1/2” accuracy at 100 with factory 143PH ammo. While I’ve only had it now for about two months, I’ve hunted it, killed with it (1 pig, 180yards) and continue to enjoy carrying it, when carrying it is required. It’s right at home in a box blind too.

I would consider getting another in a long action flavor.

Looking down into the action as the barrel would screw into it…

These are opposite ends of the sleeve…

Bolt lugs and then the bolt inserted into the sleeve and turned to lock.

Make no mistake…they shoot, my rifle proved that too me…I just don’t like the design and for the money feel like there are better options than this action/design.

99% of the folks who own this rifle will never take it apart…another reason why this probably doesn’t even matter to most and I’d be willing to bet most who own them have no idea this is how it’s put together.

If it shoots it shoots. Looking at a pretty good price for its maximum accuracy potential and same spec vs APR, Horizon, Gap etc

So is this like modern engines that use an aluminum block with steel cylinder liners? On a hunting rifle that may see 300rds lifetime, this wouldn't bother me at all.

I've got one in 300wm. It's more accurate than I am. Happy to show it off at the range if anyone would like! Only about 200 rnds through mine so far, but I've got a couple friends that are well past 1K with theirs and haven't had any issue with the action design, which for a hunting rifle is PLENTY for me. Full disclosure, I also shoot a Seekins PH2, HIT, and SP-10, and I HAD a Bravo until I bought the HIT. So I might be a little biased lol.

Buzz,

How heavy is the APR you already have in 6.5 Creedmoor? What weight are your trying to get too with scoped and suppressed? I know you are getting a titanium suppressor which will make a big difference in weight at balance.

They look good and shoot well, but Glen Seekins shoukd have stuck to scope rings, mounts and AR handguards. The Havoc has a few quirks that don't need to bee there and should have been engineered better from the get go, rather than making work-arounds. My coyote hunting partner had one in 6.5cm, 6cm and 300prc. The 300 prc went back to seekins twice for bolt issues, the second time it came back the bolt was still terrible and he said enough. He sold every one of them and started building on Impact actions. I had one in 6.5cm.....had. While they have several nice features and are a decent value, the experiences that I and my buddy have had leaves me stearing clear of them in the future. Aluminum has no place in the bolt/action lock-up.

Your mileage may vary, and they tend to shoot pretty accurate for a factory rifle, but I don't think they have the longevity of a quality action like an Impact, Defiance, Bighorn. Etc etc.

Are you going to pull those pistols, or whistle Dixie?

Ha! I know you'd never buy a Ruger or 308.

You should just build a lightweight. 700 short action, manners or McMillan ultralight stock, 16-18" prefit carbon barrel, etc.
