Curious....has anyone made anything out of an old crib? We have our kids cribs still. I just took them out of the attic and was about to get rid of them. Wife still has an emotional connection with them. Thought about making something from part of them (don't want something big, but maybe something to hang on a wall, or....????). This is intriguing. What are we working with? Pictures? What kind of wood? A crib may not offer up much wood, so a project may need to be small. Maybe a jewelry box/keepsake box for the kiddos now that they are older. A chess board. Boys? A few pages back GasGuzzler posted some nightstands that a crib would likely have enough wood for. I am just throwing ideas out there, hoping to spark better ideas.

Giant Tree house for kids, Bottom was 9 Ft High. Had swings and ropes under it. Inside built-in bunk beds, Electricity, cable air-conditioning. Had a huge deck outside with tree growing through. Had an observation deck on top approx 18 feet off the ground. When I had to PCS with the Army, I put a for sale by owner sign out front. A women pulled up to ask directions because I was out near the road. Then she saw the tree house and then the sign. She asked if she could go into the tree house. Then the price, She seemed like a hippy, she bought the place for full asking price within 10 minutes of putting the sign out. She said it was because of the tree house. Here is a picture on google earth from 2011, everything is purple. Everything looks worn out, not taken care of. the AC is visibly missing from the tree house, you can see the empty hole. Kind of depressing. I built it in 1992.

Some more of my projects. I rarely do big projects. So I'll post a few, but there are so many I won't post them all. First is a display cabinet for my cartridge collection. It features an all glass door and reclined pockets to hold the cartridges. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/12/full-62432-372849-_mg_1610.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/12/full-62432-372851-1564.jpg) Next is a collection of bird next boxes I make. They feature a side opening clean out door that hinges on screws instead of hinges, so there's nothing to cease up. This also means there is no top to open and leak. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/12/full-62432-372854-dscf1892.jpg) Finally I have two shotguns I restored. Both are Mossberg bolt action clip fed shotguns, one is a 16 guage, the other a 20 guage. The before photos don't do justice to how bad they were, the 20 gauge was missing it's bolt, front sight and the trigger guard was broke. Both were missing the safety indicators and both were a bit rusty and the wood scratched and weathered, one more then the other. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/12/full-62432-372857-_mg_5812.jpg)

Hog I had that same 20ga!!! Can’t tell you how many pheasants I long ranged with that full choke.

Cool cartridge display. Which ones are you missing? I've added several cartridges since those photos were taken. The cabinet now has every slot filled and there's a few between slots. I'm not sure which ones I'm missing. I'd have to inventory them. I know I'm missing a few of the really old two number cartridges. I have 25-20, 25-35. 45-70, 45-90 and maybe one or two more. I have nothing in the Nitro Express line. Other then that I don't know what is missing. The collection started as a hunting cartridge only collection but along the way I did acquire some specialized police rounds and two really big empty military cases.

Hog I had that same 20ga!!! Can’t tell you how many pheasants I long ranged with that full choke. They are great shotguns. I've hunted with the 16 guage alongside freinds using modern 3 1/2" 12 guage shotguns and bagged as many Geese as they did. That infinitaly variable choke allows me to taylor the choke to get perfect patterns with Steel shot. I also have a Savage 77b 12 guage pump with a factory cutts compensator/variable choke but it's damaged beyond repair. A freind found it laying in some bush. It appears it had lain there for a very long time, it's so badly rust pitted it would not be safe to fire.

Can you use a 6BR orJap 7.7? I don't have either, but I think it would get stopped at the border. I can't even get a replacement clip for my Plinkster shipped across the border.

A reloading bench. I wanted something that looked real nice and would fit in with the house items. Well it turned out so nice the wife took it for a computer desk. It was stained and wood jointed , metal strap highlights, ect. Would take a pic and post it but the wife has so much junk on it i doubt you would see much lol. Back to the drawing board. I forgot about the reloading bench I built. I'll have to see if I can find some photos of it. I know I took some.

A wedding gift to my daughter and son-in-law. They are avid chess players. I started to turn the pieces, but after the first piece was complete I realized I still had 31 to go. Pieces will have to wait. Made from mesquite and spalted pecan from my brothers place. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/12/full-42624-374080-img_3265_copy.jpg)

In 1984 I designed, developed, and built the Infrared Heaters for the MARS POLAR LANDER. The back of the sapphire substrate had a Nickel-Chromium, doped 5% silicon, resistor that had to be within 0.0001 ohms, (7 ohms per square). Laser trimming was not allowed as it would damage the sapphire. I developed a ceric-ammonium-nitride etchant to etch the resistor to value. The conductive traces on the front were ~500 Angstroms of Nickel-Chromium, ~2,000 Angstroms of Nickel, 1,000 Angstroms of Gold, followed with a Nickel / Gold plating to a thickness of ~150um. There was a gold conductor trace that had to "wrap-around" from the front to the back of the circuit. This was done via photolithography as was the rest of the "etched" circuit. *** This was known as Thin Film technology back in the 80"s. It was a great experience to have been involved in this program. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/12/full-11828-374854-dscn5324.jpg)

While visiting 603Country a while back I commented on a cool bois d'arc mallet that he had, he then handed me a well-seasoned bois d'arc blank to make my own. The handle is from a mesquite at my brother’s place. I went with a barrel look for the head and the pin actually looks like a bung. I left the handle a little long (pommel look) thinking I might add a lanyard, we will see. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2023/01/full-42624-378896-mallet_bois_d_arc_resized_700.jpg)
