and the damn thing works. That's hard for a lot of people to wrap their head around. The 6.5 creedmoor crowd earns their ridicule sir. In no way is the ridicule directed at the performance of the 6.5 creedmoor. It duplicates what the Swede has been doing for well over a century. Failure to wrap their heads around what the creedmoor does being old technology and old news. Some of the members on this forum have been quietly drinking that koolaid for a half a century.

Average age of THF members is middle aged to olds. No wonder the .270 is leading. If it were more teens to mid 30-somethings, the 6.5 Creedmoor would be leading.

It’s about noon maybe some of them will be out of bed soon and vote…could not resist

Failure to wrap their heads around what the creedmoor does being old technology and old news. Some of the members on this forum have been quietly drinking that koolaid for a half a century. It’s my opinion that the 6.5 cm is one of the best cartridges in existence. It’s done what the 6.5 Swede failed to do ( because of weak watered down ammo) and the .260 Remington failed to do (because of typical poor marketing by Remington). Hornady created a great cartridge for both hunters and target shooters and applied their magical marketing and made it a success. It only took off in the last 10 years it was around since 2008 but wasn’t popular right from the get go. My ridicule for the 6.5 crowd comes from people acting like it’s some magical round that is not only suitable, but ideal, for every animal walking the earth short of a Cape buffalo. It’s a stellar deer sized game round, but it ain’t a .300 win mag. For a general hunting cartridge for deer ( which is what 90% of hunters are after) , it’s a excellent choice. For a western big game cartridge or a do-all NA round, I would want more horsepower than what the 6.5 cm will offer. It will do 97% of what the .270 win will do, it’s just a more modern round in a short action round
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Exactly the same if you load. This is exactly why the 6.5CM works so well. You can walk into nearly any Walmart, academy, big or small sporting goods store and pick up a rifle and get some ammo for it. Try that with a 6.5X55. Not happening.

Copying the sweede(which had already been done with the 260).Advertising and manufacturing good ammunition to let the non handloaders dabble at long range was Hornady’s win. Efficient shoulder angle, enough twist to shoot heavy bullets and even the velocity they are pushed at is copied from the Sweede. Duping the masses into believing it is cutting edge new stuff was where Hornady hit a home run.

and the damn thing works. That's hard for a lot of people to wrap their head around. Right I shot a PRS match a few years ago, that is one of the most difficult in the country. Dude was running a Ruger Precison Rifle, and Hornady ammo. He kept up with everyone quite well. And that was one of the main goals Hornady had. A guy could buy ammo and be competitive shooting precise and shooting distance. Previously that was reserved for Federal Gold Metal Match .308 Win. But the cartridge and the ammo will cause you quite a bit of grief beyond 500 yards. Much more wind sensitive than the 6.5 mm. Turns out the cartridge hunts well too. 500 yards and in, that oughta cover about 95% of all hunters? You are well aware there are thousands of people that do more with their rifles than camp out 100 yards from a feeder, and fire four shots a year.

Duping the masses into believing it is cutting edge new stuff was where Hornady hit a home run. No one was duped, and if they were, it was millions of people. It is the better mousetrap. Better than the 6.5X55, better than the .260 Rem. Just like the 28 Nosler is better than the 7 STW, and the .300 PRC is better than the .300 Win Mag. And, once again, Hornady appropriately supported it with very good ammo. Some of us embrace positive change. Others wish we were still driving Mode-A Fords everywhere. But, I still voted .308 Win in this poll.

The cartridge that kills more animals in Texas each year isn't on the list.

You are well aware the hundred year old sweede and the 15 year old creedmoor are ballistic twins. Edit to add: I voted for the 30-06 and FYI I load and shoot both the 6.5 Swede and the 6.5 CM.

You know, one could call the 6.5 Creedmore the Taylor Swift of rifle cartridges. Both are popular with the young. Both are heavily marketed. Both are the most searched on google. And like Taylor Swift tickets, both are breaking records for sales. But nothing about that makes me think of Texas when I hear someone talk about either.

The 6.5 Creedmoor requires 42.0 to 43.0 gr of powder to make a 140 gr go 2800 fps at the muzzle. ^^And that is a maybe on that velocity for both. What does the 6.5X55 require? I have dies and brass for 6.5X55, but have not loaded it yet. Someone will call some day. Loaded more 6.5 Creedmoor and .260 Rem in the last ten years than I can recall. Probably around 10,000 rounds combined of both. And spotted or shot more than that.
