Looking at a few guns on GunBroker looking for some insight. Has anyone used them?

compliance fee is 1% of item.
plus tax

watch out for CC fees.. some are really high
most shipping fees are ok, some are high
if shop is local, sometimes you can pick up from them & save shipping

pay attention to seller's accepted payment options & contact if need be

click on 'help' & then 'buying', they have good info there

Definitely watch the fees. That’s where several will get you. Otherwise you should be good to go.

I will contact the seller and purchase on the phone. Sometimes, I have been able to get them to wave the 3% CC fee.

Big dealers may already have an FFL near you to ship the gun on file.

Gunbroker make the sellers charge tax (suks)

If buying just any popular guns, I will buy local. If it's an older gun, or something extraordinary you're stuck with the hassle.

I bought a rifle via GB earlier this year. I got a great deal on an almost brand new rifle with several upgraded modifications.

I disabled my own account for the same reason, no longer save enough to make it worth the hassle.

Before compliance fees, tax laws, used to be a good place to find some deals. These days its a pain for buyers and sellers.

Before you buy, contact the seller over the phone or email! I’ve bought a few things and have saved myself alot by just paying them directly rather than using gun brokers payment method. 9 out of 10 shops on there prefer to skip the gunbroker system since it robs both buyer and seller.

As always check the sellers ratings, if the deal is too good to be true contact and try to avoid PayPal friends and family.

I have done this both ways as a buyer and seller. It saves buyer and seller $ especially on private sales. Super annoying that taxes are involved.

Been burned once by private party on rifle. Said it was new, it wasnt and was missing items. Always had good luck with actual retailers on there. They have more incentive to stay honest.

I got money back though. Guy told me to get lost when i emailed him. Did some googling, found he had a pharmacist license #, then found pharmacy he was at, then called every hour to say hi. Day two he agreed to partial refund.

They are good to go but like everybody else said, check each sellers fees and credit card upcharge.
A call to the seller can save you $$$!
I have a good local FFL that is a long time friend and send guns there.

Taxes are inevitable and you will have to pay them when you buy retail anywhere, it's not just a GB thing so that makes zero difference who you buy from.

Wasnt always the case. I intentionally bought a few of my guns out of state bc they were expensive and taxes were a good chunk. Nowadays you’re paying taxes, heck even private sales are taxed on GB now.

GB isn't like it used to be for sure. Had a friend call yesterday looking for a particular rifle, 3 times they have thought they bought it on GB from dealers but after they took the payment then said not available. They got it back but one was a real pain.

Fees, fees, fees. I just checked to see how many transactions I've done on there. 24, mostly buying. Hardly ever go on there anymore. You used to be able to find unusual stuff at a bargain. After they were bought out the fees and complication increased to the point that now you're better off at a high volume local shop.

Yup. I used to buy several rifles a year off GB and Guns International. Haven’t bought one since they started with fees and sales tax.

I've never been cheated. There were fees I didn't like paying. Waived CC later because I called prior to bidding for info on the gun. Prices are normally seemed higher than local. But very smooth transactions. I bought stuff on Armslist seemed cheaper and never had any trouble there. I'd sell on Gunbroker just because they're so well known and handle the details.

Sold some high end guns on there years ago with no problem, If your looking at normal guns look at Bud's Gun Shop. Got a few off there in the last few years, most are free shipping, just pick you near by FFL from there list and have them ship it there. My local FFL is only $10.

If you are looking for weird, it's a good resource. I recently bought a very nice Remington Model 8 in .30 Remington for a very reasonable price, and had it shipped direct because I have a Curio & Relic FFL.

If you’re looking for a run of the mill gun, GB sucks. If you’re looking for something harder to find or niche you can do well. I won an auction at $1150 on a $1500 pistol yesterday so did pretty well.

I think he’s trying to say that buying on GB is somehow easier than buying at Scheels but Im not fluent in clown.

I’d argue, you must be hitting Scheels up at the wrong time. Go on a weekend or few days before xmas, yeah its gonna suck. Go in the middle of the week and its super easy. Picked one up over lunch one time, in and out in 30min. Picked up one that had been shipped from another store, in and out in 20 min bc it was prepaid. There was no waiting around for an auction to end, figuring out final payment, figuring out how to issue payment, wait for FFL to send info, wait for shipping, wait for FFL to process. So I dont see how GB is easier than walking into a store. Believe me, Im buying a gun on GB now and seller is slow to respond, wants specific form of payment (have to go to the Post Office today), it’ll take 2-3 days for my payment to arrive, 1-2 days for him to get to his FFL, 3-5 days to ship to my FFL, 1-2 days for me to get to my FFL. Meanwhile, exact same gun is sitting in a glass case at Riflegear, on sale (found out after I won GB), and it could be in my hands in 1-2hrs depending on the traffic and wait today. About $250 more than what I got it for on GB.
