Have you ever had any lunatic friends? All mine in our late 50s are quite tamed now.

My teens and early 20s were different though. Glad I made it through alive and no record. laugh

To be determined

We're about the same age and all of my friends have slowed down as well. Or did they grow up? lol

But yeah, my high school and college years were something else. Good times.

The majority of my old buddies have slowed down from the wild lives we all lived when younger, but I had a few that were stone cold nuts, and a couple ended up not living long or fruitful lives. One of my wrestling buddies was a good looking kid, great family, but stood less than 5'3". He was always dating the best looking girl, but most of his relationships were tumultuous, and he would get into fights with just about anyone who looked cross at him or a girlfriend, regardless of their size. He got married a couple of times, but developed an addiction to meth and served time in the pokey. The hard life caught up with him and he passed away a few years ago from cancer...I am convinced the hard chemicals from his addiction were the root cause of the cancer.

Another buddy was our starting pitcher on HS baseball team. Another good looking guy from a good family, but he was always a drunk and eventually became a raging alcoholic. Last I heard he was living in a storm shelter near a burned out house on another friend's farm. He may still be there. Funny though, he had two brothers and one became a radiologist and the other retired from the Army as a full colonel.

Just goes to show that regardless of upbringing, there are always bad paths that can be followed and they can lead to tragic endings.

Footnote - I grew up in Ada, Oklahoma. If you are not familiar with the town, google "The Innocent Man" by John Grisham, or "Dreams of Ada" by Robert Mayer. My high school and early years were a dark time to be from a small, picture postcard, small town.

One of my good friends from high school was nuts. Would do crazy and outrageous stuff, especially when it came to vehicles. Didn’t stop when when we hit our 20’s either, we had some truly outrageous times. Fought the law on many occasions and the law won.

Hit 30, had kids and he lives about 7 miles from me and is completely mellow. We go antiquing together from time to time along with other mundane adventures. He has a few businesses and is quite successful

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I ran across an old friend I played ball with in HS , I can’t believe how many I went to school with are dead that I didn’t know about.
We had lots of fun back then.

I had several that were way out there back in and a few years after high school. I knew what "curb stomped" looked like before I could drive. I made sure I never got on Harry's bad side and am amazed he is still alive. Just looking at him, you can tell he lived way outside the wild side but was always a friend I could count on.
One more that is still alive was a rodeo clown till the number of broken bones added up enough to make him quit. He basically lived out of the truck he drove and there was no telling where he would be week to week. The last time I ran into him, he smelled a whole lot like weed.
I am so glad cell phone cameras were not around when we were kids.

A lot of my family on my Father's side are buried in Ada. I was Born in Oklahoma (Tulsa) but never been to Ada.

My best friend is a bit crazy, but in a good way...I think. There are some college kids that I work with that I have no idea how they are alive. One of my cousins used to get me into a boat load of trouble when we were kids...boy was/is fearless.

One of my closest running buddies from about 15 to 17 until I joined the USAF was a Mexican/Indian that would get crazy when he drank and want to fight anyone and everyone, including me. We stopped hanging out and I later learned he was the Tarrant County leader in DUI's at one time. Read in the newspaper he was killed in a knife fight outside a strip club. Didn't surprise me one bit.

Fitting when talking of lunatic friends... and people during Covid and modern politicians and woke businesses...

Needs to be the conservative theme song or walk-on song...

Yeah. I knew a fella that was highly unpredictable. Not a bad guy, but he was a loose cannon. He ran over a car, one night, in the town we were working in. He thought the car cut him off. Witnesses weren’t so sure. At any rate, he ran the car over as though that was the only way to deal with such things. Turns out that wasn’t the first time he’d done it.

He was out of east Texas, if that matters. I think it does.

I’ve got 2 I can think of…as in wild AF, would give you their last dime (or people they liked) and would stab a MF unnecessarily lol

But I can honestly say both probably have a very high IQ, I’m sure of it actually

Never thought about that until now, I think having children changed both

All of my friends in high school were really chill, does this mean I was the crazy friend?

I was that friend. I’m pretty laid back now. Growing up in Odessa I have stories for days.

My best friend was nuttier than one of those fruitcakes on the other thread. Sometimes he just didn’t use his head. But we sure had fun! We got an apartment together 2 weeks before we graduated high school and it was probably the best summer of my life. He died a year later trying to duck a cop just outside of Madisonville, and that, was probably the worst time in my life. Dude loved hunting, guns, fast cars, and faster women. I sometimes wonder how he would have turned out.
