Got a new 20 gauge and was curious if anyone is using a 20 gauge for big duck season, and what brand of steel shot you prefer? I normally use my 12 gauge for ducks but have heard the 20 can be effective. I’m new to the 20 gauge world.

Treat it just like your 12. The effect of individual shot pellets does not change with bore size, just the number of them and the difference between 12 and 20 is minimal when it comes to pattern size and amount of shot on target. Worst case: tighter choke at distance.

I shoot a 20 some. I don’t use a choke with tight constriction or go over 1400 fps with steel shot in the 20. Cheap estate, Rio, or Winchester is what I shoot. Of the three, I like the way Rio shoots the best. In my 20’s IC patterns steel the best. Shot shells with copper plated and buffered steel would possibly improve that. As long as the less expensive stuff gets it done though, I will keep shooting them through an IC.

Pretty much all I use. I detest any steel or steel combo. Use bismuth(boss, federal, etc) or TSS/bismuth combo
