This is a modern stone tomahawk that I made from a rock I picked up and a handle I cut. The stone head is Coal Creek Serpentine. Personally, I classify this as a rare type of stone. It formed along colliding tectonic plates hundreds of millions of years ago. Of the 254 counties in Texas, it is only found in 2 and is found in very few places in those counties. I cut the handle from a wild persimmon tree. The gloss finish on the head is achieved by wet sanding by hand up to 12,000 grit and finishing off with a piece of saddle leather. There is no polishing compound or sealer used. The head is secured with rawhide strips and just to be safe, some epoxy putty at the top and bottom. By their nature, rocks are hard but as rocks go, this one is pretty soft. It can be scratched if mishandled and definitely shouldn’t be used to hit anything solid such as wood or coconuts. That will break the edge. It is purely a presentation piece. The head is 7-1/2“ long by 3-1/2“ tall by 5/8“ thick. The overall length is 19-1/4“. Dimensions are measured by tape measure and are accurate within +/- .0625”. All materials were gathered on private land with landowners permission. $125 Free shipping!
