Picked out the rifle, now looking at suppressors
The Silencer Co Harvester was one that came highly recommended to me, doing some research it is 6.25" in length.
The only other suppressor I have any experiance with is a DeadAir Sandman L on a 6.5 CM....it is a quiet gun but on a full length barrel an a 9" suppressor the gun is much too long for what I'm wanting.
With a 20" barrel on a .308 and a 6" suppressor its the same length as most of my hunting rifles, but I'm told the noise reduction isn't near as good as an 8" or 9" suppressor. only other option is to cut down to 16.5" but the gun already comes threaded so its sorta redundant.
What's the experienced suppressor shooters opinions?
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I have a 9 inch suppressor in process. Cut down the barrel to accommodate it. I didn't want a five foot long gun.

I would love it if a 6" silencer worked as well as a 8.25". They don't though. After going through the expense and wait, I use something that works as well as can be produced. There is no replacement for displacement in silencer performance.

Suppressor length isn't the only metric that determines performance. Generally the longer ones are quieter but not always. Some models / brands perform better than others. The Sandman L is a very quiet unit.
I would look at the db ratings rather than the length. There are some units that are shorter but larger in diameter and still are quiet.
Barrel length is a factor. With an identical suppressor a shorter barrel will be louder than a longer one.

Main gun to be suppressed has an 18" barrel.
1st can is a Dead Air Sandman L... It's a monster on the end of the rifle, so I put a Nomad TI in jail a few months ago. I think that is going to be the ticket.
Wife has always wanted some Hard 8

Chasing dBs on supersonic rifle cartridges is often an exercise in separating you from your money. No suppressor will make a supersonic rifle cartridge anything more than just barely "hearing safe." I value weight and maneuverability more, and so I almost always use k length cans on full size rifles.

I have one of the original Harvesters, I think it's 7.5-8 with the brake on the end of it. But it's a great suppressor. It sits on my 20" .308. Honestly, most of the short suppressors will be quiet enough, though. I use an Omega on my 24" 6.5 and it's very quiet.

It was once explained to me...suppressor game is all about internal volume. If you go shorter you must go fatter to combat the length reduction.
Some shorter/lighter ones that perform well:
Dead Air Nomad Dead Air Nomad Ti (probably the best pick right now with respect to weight and size, my opinion and I don't have one) Q Half Nelson
I had my mind made up I was going Dead Air Nomad Ti last year about this time...SilencerCo released the new Harvester EVO and offered a buy it and get a 22 cal suppressor for just the cost of the stamp. So I tried it...it works and its light but the regular Nomad is quieter, significantly so. The finish work on the EVO isn't in the same class as the Nomad either...not that I care but worth noting. The Warlock has impressed me on a bolt 22 rifle though...so that was an added surprise.
Don't let your ears hear what your eyes didn't see, and don't let your mouth say what your heart doesn't feel

I’d definitely go with the SiCo Harvester, EVO, Omega 300, or even the Hybrid 46. The Hybrid 46, Harvester, and Imega can all be made about 1.5 inches shorter if you replace the unnecessary brake on the end of it with a flush cap and that even makes the noise to the ear quieter.
Those can I listed are all in the 133-134 decibel range and all are much lighter and shorter than the Sandman L.

I'm using a Dead Air Nomad LT on a 20" barrel. While its VERY quiet, it's not as compact as I need at times. So, I'm waiting on a TBAC Dominus CB to fill that role. Will be interested to see how they compare in terms of sound.

I would stick with an s can unless you're going with a 16" then an L would be good.
I would take a Dead Air Nomad in either flavor
Multiple mounting options.
The Q cans seem to be the quietest.
I have two nomads and a omega. I lean toward my nomad light the most

Another vote for the Deadair Nomad Ti...I have it on a 18" no complaints.
I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect.

The new Harvestor Evo put up very impressive numbers for a compact and smaller diameter can. If you don’t need the rapid fire capabilities it seems like it offers great value for price and performance.
I always read about people saying don’t chase decibels. I went with the Resonator R2 strictly based on being one of the quietest 30 cal options for the price. While I have been very impressed with the sound suppression, except on an AR-10, I think I would be very unimpressed with the volume from the K series style cans. 16 oz and 7” on the end of all of my rifles hasn’t been substantial even trying to shoot off hand.

I have a nomad (non ti) version that I use with an 18" rifle and some others and the 18" doesn't seem too awkward in a blind or to carry around...use the same can on a 11.3" barrel 6.8 as well and really like it on that

I'm a huge fan of YHM cans. I have one of their old YHM 30 Phantom SS Tanks. It is still my go to can, also their mounting system is rock solid. I've shot thousands upon thousands of rounds through it on several different platforms and it has never loosened up on me. I've only hunted from a blind a time or two, most of my hunting is spot and stalk on hogs and I've used the 8" 32oz YHM SS can exclusively on everything from a 8" 300BLK all the way up to a 20 bolt gun in 308. I've never had a problem toting it around, but my buddy got the same can, but in Ti and it is day and night on the weight lol. Check out their Nitro N2O cans, you can choose between short (5.4") or long (7.5") configuration.

For a hunting rifle it isnt about "how quiet" it is about functionality for your situation. Weight and length should be minimal on a hunting rig. Find the lightest shortest best for your situation silencer for the money and get it.
GO TRUMP!

My recommendation is a Dead Air Nomad (or Ti) or a CGS Hyperion K.
I have the original Harvester and it is a staple on my 16.5" 6.8SPC. I also use it on a 20" Remington .260 build, but only from the bench. If that gun goes into the field, the Nomad is on it.
I use a Dead Air Sandman Ti on my 18" Remington 7TCU, my 19" Tikka 7-08AI, and my Encore in 6.5 Grendel (24" barrel). I never have a problem maneuvering around a blind or in the woods with any of those rifles.
My Form 1 can is 7.5" long and it lives on the end of my two Ruger American Predator rifles. It makes both of them pretty long, but not so much that they are unusable.
The SilencerCo SpecWar was my very first suppressor purchase and it now only rides on my two SBRs. It is too long and heavy for any other duty. It is super quiet though.
The Hyperion K is my next purchase and it will most likely live on that 260. The Nomad will go to the 7-08AI. I will most likely end up with one of the new Harvester EVOs as well for use on my Encore and Contender pistol barrels that are soon to be threaded.

I am about convinced they're best on pistol AR's
For me, 99% of shots of whitetail are under 150 yards so it'll work for me
Even a chopped 16 1/4 plus suppressor is too long

I have a Q Trash Panda. I like the size and weight. I agree chasing decibels for hunting is not as important as size and weight.

My suppressor is 7" X 15/8" and all Titanium. There is no need for one to be longer than that. Hunting with it, and making one or two shots and my ears are fine.
The next one will probably be the Dead Air Titanium. I will always buy Titanium. There is no sense in trying to save money and go stainless steel. It is a device that will probably last you all of your life.
