So I recently bought a Mossberg patriot in 30-06 because of a sale on it. I replaced that terrible stock with a Boyd’s thumbhole stock and bedded and pillared it. Has anyone shot one of these in 30-06?! After buying it I have watched a ton of videos and read reviews. Seems people are all over the place with their experiences with this hun. Some calibers it seems to group really well, but not so much in others… only thing is I have been able to find any that are shooting a 30-06, and I haven’t had a chance to get out and shoot mine.

Well I got out and shot it today. Took about 4 shots to get it zeroed. Then I put 3 rounds of 180 grain federal at about 1/2” group. Then 3 150 grain Winchester all touching. I’d say it’s a damn accurate shooter at 100 yards!

I did a load development for a buddy that owns that rifle in .223 Rem

If memory serves I got 3 shots into 1 1/4" at 300 yards. It's his prairie dog rifle and he loves it.

That is pretty much what I’ve read about this gun. It’s either super accurate and they love it, or it sprays everywhere and they think it’s the biggest piece of trash, lol. No really in between. My 30-06 really impressed me!

Saying one is a P.O.S. can often be blamed on the ammo that was tried in it.

I think a lot of those came with a factory mounted scope.

Never trust the factory mount job.

Got to take reviews with a grain of salt. I read some reviews about the 0.308 diameter 125 grain ballistic tips I loaded in my blackout for my boy. Reviews across the board from pure crud to great elk bullet lol.

Yeah, mine did, but I took it off immediately and gave it to someone at work for a pellet gun

My 308 shoots as good as I can with factory loads. Bull barrel fluted.
The complaint I have is the bolt not real smooth operation.

That’s for sure. But for me, it’s still better than I would expect for the price point

Several people reported acccuracy issues with the patriot. I think it has got something to do with the magazine and the inlet or insert that fits between the stock and the action, right at the lugs. Does not look very solid. But glass and pillar bedded, that’s not even an issue. Especially with a nice solid laminate stock. Nice work cheers

Thank you. It was my first time doing pillars and bedding it, but I watched all the videos I could find and took my time and it came out super solid. Those Boyd stocks a really nice. I didn’t shoot it with that cheap pos stock it came with, but it feels super solid like a way more expensive rifle now. 1/2” group with 2 almost in same hole is about as good as I could possibley ask for

I don’t think I could shoot any better with any rifle.
