If you buy the farm, does your estate continue receiving the money? I was under the impression that once you’re gone the state stops paying out. Your designated heirs will continue to receive the payout.

I’d probably buy a really nice diesel pusher and toad. Quit work. And continue onward with this adventure. Set up trusts.

Historically, the annual rate of return on the stock market is 10%. I know, I know, not this year, but historically, that's where it's always been and always will be. The rule of 72 says that at that 10% rate of return your money doubles every 7 years.
Take the lump sum and don't be a complete and utter moron and you'll do WAY better than the 30 year payout. That's what I plan to do after I win tonight. I did the math on this a few years ago when it hit 1.2 bil the first time. If you take the lump, take 40 mil to play with to start and invested the rest. you would be at the 1.2 bil in under 10 yrs with taking a few mil a year as your "income"

If so what did you buy with your windfall profits Long time ago I was with this gal I was dating, we went into a store bought $10.00 worth of scratch off tickets and there was a $4.00 prize on one of them. She popped off congratulations you won $4.00, I chuckled and said, nope only lost $6.00 this time.

40 million a year in a trust. I'd take in lump sum held in an LLC which was owned by a trust. And the trust would be an irrevocable trust established by a friend or family member for me. And would include the new statutory 300 year rule against perpetuities (with a backup provision for the 21 year rule just in case). Pay the big tax bite once, then get preferred tax treatment on dividends for life with about as much privacy as possible.
