Last day here. The Excellence Riviera Resort. I’m here for my daughters wedding, which was Friday night. I’ve gotta say the resort itself and the service is excellent as the name would imply. At least to my limited experience. The beach itself is pretty crappy. There’s a floating barrier out in the water that is unsightly. There are no sharks in this area so I’m not sure why it’s there.

The biggest issues is the police/military. The government owns the beach. They ride 4 wheelers on the beach with one police officer and two military officers. All three completely covered in black or camo bdu’s. This wouldn’t be that big of an issue except they weave and circle around people, get off and stand at port arms with their ARs staring at you just a few feet away. They may stand there for 5 minutes staring at you. They didn’t pick me as a likely suspect, it appeared to be at random. Annoying to say the least but it freaked my wife out. Admittedly she’s a little sensitive.

So as to the resort I’d say it’s great, as to Mexico and their behavior, screw Mexico.

Must be alot of hotel close together

I have never seen any military riding 4 wheelers when I go

We stay at Ateliers in Playa Mujeres which is north of Cancun, but the beach is kinda isolated and no other hotels close by.

The have drug gangs into turf war and they usually come up on jet skis to do their shooting or at least that is how it has been when I have been down there.

Well I have zero regrets as it was my daughter’s wedding. Also service (that you pay for) was excellent. We got a cabana on the beach yesterday. The cabana boy (beach concierge) was excellent, he came by every 10 minutes to assist our needs, if we didn’t have any I gave him the thumbs up and walked away silently, if we needed anything he was very attentive.

He also stated that he was afraid of the law enforcement and he lives there. He takes a taxi two blocks to his bus stop to get on a bus to get to work. He gets up at 03:30 to get to work by 07:00 to go 10 miles daily. All this because of local and federal government, not because of the cartels, but because the cartels run the police. His words, he may have been selling me what I wanted to hear, who knows.

Congrats on your daughter's wedding. I'm sure she had a great time and is very thankful for her great parents' support.

Now as far as Mexico goes

I'll stay in Frisco

Closest picture I dared take, since if you held your phone up that they could see they were all over you.

Absolutely not. Very well gated and fenced property.

Maybe, cabana boy said they had a very bad sea weed event last year.

Except for the beach. That is open land.

Mexico never shut down for Covid, Never required vaccines or covid test to enter. They were a nice escape while the rest of the world locked down.
