Guys that head out to western states to hunt, what maps are y’all using nowadays?
Haven’t been since 2020 due to injury and looking to use some points in 2023. Have areas I’ve scouted (driving) but need to know what’s the latest greatest. I’m not a tech person, so easy to use and prefer phone. I have a Garmin but that thing seems more of a waste to me than anything. In the past I’ve used onXmaps but I see more out now. Let me know what y’all use and/or prefer.

OnX is still widely used.
They now have good phone and computer features.

Thanks Wytex. Thought I’d ask and see if something is easier to use or has better features.

OnX and Gohunt are probably your two most popular.

I’m still hard core onX just because I’m scared to loose all my waypoints

I’ve used OnX last 2 upland seasons in Montana. I was pleased with the service.

You can import your waypoints into GoHunt.

Yes, but not the icons or the notes. It doesn't help a whole lot of I can't tell if my point is a water source, tracks, or that sunny spot where I took a nap two years ago.

Yelp and that’s alot of states for me. I like the gohunt maps, just not enough to rehaul everything over.

Both are good

If you want to have hardcopy, printed maps that are water resistant, foldable and have recent imagery, I might know a guy...

for an app, I would always suggest OnX

National Geographic Trail Maps (They make them for many national forests).

I like having the printed maps and a compass so I don't get lost (Yes I have had batteries die on my GPS in the woods.)

The onX filters/boundaries are really easy to use and you can download areas so you can still use the map and gps without reliable cell service. It also tells you hunting unit boundaries. What a time to be alive

I use Gohunt and printed USGS 1:24000 7.5 minute maps from mytopo.com or similar along Suunto MC-2 Global USGS UTM scale compass. I've used other spec printed maps as well but less commonly.

OnX right off the phone. I gave up my gps’s. No sd cards needed.
