This is not intended to be funny or joking. If you know any ladies thinking about doing this I'd recommend having them research "breast implant illness". I know someone going through this. What seemed like a cool idea may have serious repercussions.

Ditto. She has had them taken out, and is already doing better in just a few weeks.

It’s a BIG DEAL! My wife has been deathly ill for over a year. She had implants after surgery to remove a lump in one breast . We really thought she was going to die. The “Medical industry “ does not recognize breast implant illness. It’s just over six weeks now after explant. She was feeling better immediately. Anyone wanting to know about what happens can PM me and I’ll have her answer questions or tell the story. They are made and put in by doctors for one reason. MONEY. She was very worried about how she was going to look afterwards. I convinced her that I didn’t care as long as she was ALIVE! Remember, it’s a BUSINESS. Doctors are taught in medical school that a patient healed is a customer lost.

I know a girl that had them for about a year… same thing. She was getting real sick and had them taken out. She’s been much better ever since.

The wife has had no issues. The youngest daughter has had no issues, but the oldest daughter is constantly sick. Her doctor says the implants aren’t causing problems, but who knows. And my old friend Pete, now deceased, one of his granddaughters had implants and medical problems until she had the implants removed. She says her problems were directly from the implants.

A lot of doctors are really timid about making that call. There’s big money involved. Plus not a lot of research. Who’s going to fund it? There is a lot of evidence.

Have her research breast implant illness. Doctors tend to send ladies on a whole carousel of specialists and tests with little positive outcome, while ignoring a very possible cause.

It’s more about information sharing. Lots of ladies with similar problems and the common denominator being implants. They get a lot better after removal. You can actually find it now in the medical community. They know there’s something. Have a look.

I didn't think this was new news, I remember some of the first widely-reported cases about 20 years ago. Putting foreign substances in your body might not always be a good idea.

Nothing has changed. This has been an issue ever since breast implants were invented. Have you seen the movie Breast Men? Great movie. True Story. It was, and still is a very small percentage of women that get sick from it. However, a small percentage of millions of breast implants is still a lot of people. The internet has just made the information more available. My wife has talked about getting implants in the past, to which I replied "HELL NO!" Would I enjoy them? HELL YES! But I'm not willing to risk it.

I remember years ago, there were several brands removed from the market because of health problems. Big lawsuits too.

Reading about the possible causes, I would think that anyone with a family history of autoimmune problems, should stay away from them, women aren't the only ones, there are testicular implants for men.

As a medical professional, this thread is going in places I don't think it was intended, but let me clear some water and dispel a few myths.

1. doctors do not make money from industries such as implant manufacturers or pharmaceutical companies. They do not pay us any money UNLESS the doctor is on their research and development panels doing studies. If someone is doing a study, there are way bunches of papers to be filled out and consent has to be done, so you would know it. Other than that situation, no doctor gets paid for using a specific product or drug. These reps can not even give us a pen as a gift anymore, the govt regulated that decades ago (unlike many other professions, including politicians)

2. if you think a doctor wants to have sick people to make money off, then you are twisted. I can guarantee you the last thing any plastic surgeon wants is a bunch of sick people sitting in their office or online making bad reviews. Yes, sick people are how we make a living, but we as a professional have a vow to try our best to make them better. Does everyone have the same thoughts on how that is done? of course not. But it does not mean we want to keep people sick. Trust me when I say there are plenty of other sick people out there for us to make a living from. We don't need to intentionally keep people sick to make money off. That is twisted and shows a fundamental lack of understanding of what medicine is about. Plus, if you really feel that way about your doctor, there are plenty of other doctors out there to try. If you stay at a practice you think is not fulfilling their role of making you well, you have every right to leave and go elsewhere. If you don't, maybe you are part of the problem.

3. Cosmetic surgery is elective. Now I understand there are some who get implants for breast cancer reasons, but quite a lot of these people complaining about implant illness are cosmetic patients. Cosmetic surgery deals with a different set of patients to begin with. I will leave that right there.

4. Many people understand the issues and are willing to take the implants out. To act like there is some nationwide medical resistance to remove an implant in someone who feels bad after having them is just not a fair statement. The problem is many of those getting them removed want something else replacing the lost implant....that is where the rub lies. What do you do there? Tough decisions need to be made.

5. A lot of people do not understand medical research or research in general. There can be a causal relationship shown in research that does not mean something causes another thing. For instance, I can have research that shows ice cream consumption is directly linked to crime. Just because I can show the link does not mean ice cream eating causes crime. The studies have to be done properly with good controls and proper statistics. Much of the research into these kinds of things is garbage science, some of it isn't. Sorting through the weeds and finding good research can be tough, because unfortunately research has been pervaded by politics (not talking strictly about the govt politics here). So be careful what you allow yourself to believe, it can be based on faulty research.

Carry on...

There are implants for pretty much anything you want out there. They all show a desire to fix a problem that only the person getting them sees....it is a mind issue, not a body issue. Even in reconstructive cases after mastectomy or other surgeries, the world has no issue with the lack of...it is the person who is receiving them that has the issue of not having something and the desire to feel "made whole" that drives the implants.

I say that as a man who has never lost breasts, so please take that for what it is. I do not understand why women largely take their beauty advice from other women and allow themselves to be made to feel "less than" by a bunch of magazines and other women. It boggles my mind.

My wife talked to dozens of surgeons. Not ONE would talk about breast implant disease. MONEY. Plain and simple.

In reconstructive situations there are huge mental health issues to consider, I lost a testicle to trauma, my implant was a huge help to me in mentally dealing with the loss.

Just like I offered the $ for the original upgrades, I have since asked the wife if she wanted them removed. She said no every time I asked.

What Texas buckeye says about a certain segment of women, I totally agree with. A former neighbor’s daughter is that way. She went through high school as a plain and fat girl. Never had a date. After college she paid for stomach stapling and some cosmetic surgery. Then, looking better, she married for money and had a LOT more work done. Every time I see her she looks different. She needs constant confirmation that she looks good (she doesn’t, looking more plastic than good). Back when we occasionally emailed, she mentioned her latest ‘procedure’, and I asked if she was happy with the results. Her response was to send me a pic of her in her newest tiny bikini. That did look good, I must admit, and NO, I don’t have the pic any more.

And, the money guy dumped her for a younger model. Heaven knows how she looks now.
