Hi from Nebraska, 1st post here.
I was just kind of curious if there's much going on with this round, seems like the perfect pig round. I have a couple of them and have shot a few deer with them. Kind of range limited for the wide open Sandhills but it's good to 300 or a little better.

1. .300 Blackout killed it. 2. Remington did a Remington move, they failed to support their own cartridge. 3. .300 HAMR designed by Wilson Combat piled even more dirt on the grave of the 30 Rem AR 4. It is too easy to get a barrel for the same AR, in either of the two mentioned above, and tomato stake the .30 Remington AR barrel.

It was probably the best 30 cal AR15 cartridge, at least from a performance standpoint, so of course Remington failed to market and support the round properly.

I'm glad there's a few using it, and thanks for the welcome! I agree.KK, mine are really accurate, and easy to load.

It was probably the best 30 cal AR15 cartridge, at least from a performance standpoint, so of course Remington failed to market and support the round properly. Its energy and trajectory out of an AR were amazing. About the time I actually thought about getting one, Remington dropped the ball. I figure if it was a lousy cartridge then Remington would have kept it. Sadly... I am only half kidding.

I believe PigPopper is a big fan. He's got several videos with it as his main rig.
Seeing his videos almost tripped my nostalgia button and got me back on the path of picking one up. I had never committed to one prior. During the time it was on my radar the war was keeping me too busy to get into a novelty cartridge.
The limited mag capacity and chronic feeding issues related to the modified mag and bolt turned me off of it for good

Back when this caliber came out Guns ammo and magazines where easy to come by not anymore the people who have them don’t sell them at one time I had three 30rar probably had less than 2000$ in all three.

Nor have I had any feed issues. I even made a couple 12 rounders and they work fine also.

30 Remington AR , 30 Rem AR , 30-RAR , also known as 300 American in its prototype phase is a delicious caliber. I can go on and on about this caliber … Originally it was a DPMS concept but since Big Green was backing the ammo and supplies for it they became the driving force behind marketing and eventually killing the caliber. In addition to the calibers JG mentions the true conflict at Big Green and eventually DPMS (as they were acquired by Remington) was how many small frame AR10 sales were they losing due to their own manifestation of a 30 Rem AR. The G2 platform was the new favorite at around 2 years after 30 RAR’s launch and apparently they couldn’t share the same spotlight. Now adays Gunbroker is the sole source for anything of this caliber and unfortunately I think me and the same 3 guys shooting this caliber are all driving up the prices on spare parts, ammo, and mags I like a novelty in my arsenal, as I travel around and stop in at pawn shops and gun shops every so often I’ll find a single box with years of dust on it and 9 out of 10 times the shop owner will say “yeah I ordered that by mistake. I can usually talk them into letting a box go for 12 - 18 dollars cause nobody knows what it is. I kill a lot of pigs with this caliber , I make some videos to try and keep its allure relevant - I spent about 15 mins at the DPMS booth at last years NRA show discussing the “market” for the 10 round factory magazines. I told them guys are spending $ 100 a mag and that we really need another run of those to compliment the Loyals who are still repping the cause. I could literally see the I Don’t Give A Hoot look on the guys face - they make AKs now why would they tool up the line for a dead calibers magazines ….. Ahhhh well , thanks for the post and I mean it - I love when I’m not the one bringing up the cartridge , makes me happy!

Pig Popper, were you on msrhunt also? Iirc you snagged a pretty good deal on an upper a couple years ago, as did I. During covid, a buddy spotted about 8 boxes of the fmj ammo at a sportsmans warehouse for 20 a box and snagged it all for me, and I did see some at another sportsmans in Cody a couple years ago, otherwise I've never seen any in the wild. Midway was blowing out their supply of 150 gr sp back in 2020 for $16 a box but I didn't snag any of that for whatever reason lol.
There would be a market for higher cap mags, and I've figured out how to make a reliable mag, except for the spring. Getting the right size spring is tough, you can modify an ar spring spring but a narrower one would be better.
I recently stumbled upon some info that suggests the 7.5 Swiss round as being the right dimensions for forming into 30 AR, but haven't needed to try it.
Oh and I've been trying to use the search function here but it's pretty hard to get any specific info.

That cartridge was too far ahead of its time.
The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

What happened to msrhunt forum?
What all bullets are you guys using? I have a bunch of 110 vmax for coyotes and pdogs once in a while, and 125 sst are equally accurate and have worked on deer and antelope. The 150 sst, 30303 which are meant for the 300 savage don't shoot quite as well in the rifle I tried them in but they should be great at pig ranges.

I guess the owner stopped paying the domain hosting so it got wiped away. I’m shooting 125 grain SST reloads and 150 grain factory core lokt - I haven’t and don’t plan on exploring any other loads for the foreseeable future - I’m way to occupied with other calibers, life, and such! Post up some photos of your targets or game taken - I’ll have to root through and do the same later

Yeah I saw that last night. I bet that's an accurate sucker too. What gets me about the ad is the attention to detail on previous vs current pricing and each component listed BUT no target photos … Heck the action alone is probably worth $ 800 to someone on the resale market so 4 bills to find out if it shoots … If it didn’t have a thumbhole stock, taxes, and reloaded ammo I’d probably bid on it.

Is anyone in need of a few boxes of ammo? I think he had 2 boxes of 150, 3 of 125 core lokt, and 3 of 123 umc, $25 a box plus shipping.

This is still one of the more interesting rounds I've messed with, recently I got some 160 ftx Marlin Express bullets to play with, those would probably thump a pig pretty good if we had any up here lol. Just curious if everyone has run out of brass and ammo yet, I sure haven't seen any available for a long time.

When I first decided I wanted something better for hogs than .223, I did some looking around and the .30 RAR looked like the best option. When I began looking to buy what I'd need I ran into all kinds of roadblocks. I guess I should not have been surprised to see that good ol' Remington had done it again. Sigh.
