I've caught four under my feeder at home baited with wet cat food. Ok, I’ve got a trap idk what it’s called but it’s good for about 1 coon We have chickens at the house and I’ve caught about 20 plus in it Man these things are deep Shooting them at this point is out of these question Muzzle loader season starts in 7 days, i feed, swap batteries and get out I’ll look up dog proof trap but sometimes I’ll have 1 spinning it and 3-4 on the ground eating. It’s unreal up there

If you want to get rid of varmints of all sorts you have to go hard at it and not piddle. You have to be relentless. I learned that with the possums and coyotes and such. Taking one out every now and then is a waste of time and effort. Or one could just continue making the coons and crows fat with $10.00 a bag corn. Might as well dump it out on the ground and save wear and tear on the expensive feeders

This seems pretty vague How do I go hard/relentless on them? Set up shop and blast them or what?

I run a moultrie NTX Hunter feeder. It has a shocker built in it and it works. The coons leave it alone. I have never used this shocker but it might be worth a try.

My feeder runs off 4, AA batteries
Is that enough juice?
This is family land and I have bee threatened for the last 4-5 years that this is my last year it’s getting sold type deal
So I’ve been very reluctant to buy a good feeder here
Idk what a better feeder would do, maybe more space between spinner and cage
But I should have mentioned this in July really
We’re so close to season now idk what to do other than keep adding corn

I like Z-Traps since they have a two-way trigger versus the Duke which only has a one-way. And I'd only used corn as bait. It's what they came there for in the first place.

Yup, smart as always. Those traps will help a lot. Only problem is you do need to check them everyday.

You will have to stay after them continually no matter what method. When you take out 2, 4 more will show up shortly to take their place. Spikes can deter them from climbing, and 4" pvc around the legs that hang so they can turn with weight shifts also are used. Search racoon deterrent. Good luck as they truly the gift that keeps on giving!

200 pounds of corn a week to coons is crazy. I hope that is more than just one feeder. The problem with regular leasing (showing up on weekends) is that trapping coons is generally out of the question. When you show up for the weekend you do not want to set traps and have coons tied off to feeder legs flopping around scaring deer. A stout cage or the zapper thingy sounds fun. I have never tried the Eliminator plates. We have crank up feeders and have never seen a coon be able to make it from the leg over to the feeder. I know a guy that said his coons could, but could never produce a picture of it.

The regular Dukes traps work dang good. We have caught well over 400 coons and we only used corn as bait, that is what the coons are there for. Coons are curious critters. During the big acorn drop a few years ago we would have corn an inch thick under feeders in about a six foot circle. Coons would still get caught in the foot tap with corn in it.

I had the same problem, but figured no way I could exterminate all the coons. So I wrapped all the feeder cages with chicken wire. That worked till squirrels or coons chewed through the chicken wire. Then I covered the cages with serious wire mesh. The coons can no longer get to the corn, other than eat some of what’s on the ground. Some of you might have issues with the corn dropping mostly down rather than out in a spray type pattern, but I can get along fine with that. Here’s an example.

This seems pretty vague How do I go hard/relentless on them? Set up shop and blast them or what? I'm not certain what maximum means by relentless, but we went all out when my brother bought his place. But we were there every weekend and worked from there some during the week too. All out/relentless: We snared all holes in the fence line and ran it daily. We had several foot traps at every feeder, checked daily, removed dead coons, and rebated (corn) We drove around at night and spot lighted them in trees and ran them down when we saw them. Ambushing feeders with a shot gun was awesome. If one showed up while hunting, we would end a hunt and blast the coon. We would take a 22 for this, or the 308 did just fine if the 22 was forgotten. Several coons took an arrow. We also trapped around the camp house for coons that hung out looking for table scraps. And corn for bait. If you have a pet cat do not use cat food, yup, you will catch it, or the neighbors cat. You will be surprised how far cats roam. The first couple of years we thought there was no end to it. Our best guess was almost 200 in the first year or so. The next few years we didn't kill as many and noticed that things were finally slowing down. It was like his place (with a few corn feeders and protein feeders) was a huge coon magnet. I have guessed at 400 coons, but it might be more than that. The ranch has expanded by more than 2X. We did not have near the coon problem on the new land. We concluded that coons come from a pretty large area and we had gotten a grip on the coon population in the whole area So, to control your coon population, you will need to kill all of the coons within a few hundred acres around you. Or get a stout cage. After ten years coon control got easy, we only get about 20 a year, all migrants. We know better than letting up. Have fun

The feeders with the plates will stop most of it. Most of those style you will have to extend the plates to stop the long arm ones.

I made a cage that goes around the bottom of my 55 gal feeder Slide it up bout 3 inches and put a good ratchet strap around the barrel to hold it on. Cut out a small door to replace the batteries. It's wide and long enough they can't reach the spinner thru it

I cover the feeder legs with axle grease, marine grease, Vaseline, whatever is cheapest or available at the time. I apply it to the feeder legs at the beginning of season or two to three times a year if I am feeding year round. I tried the trick of using slinkies on the legs, and it worked well at first, but the coons destroyed them in one season so I went back to using axle grease.
That keeps them off the feeder, but I did not like the idea of feeding 5 to 8 coons every night with expensive deer feed even if it is off the ground. Off season or the last night before I leave during season I will gang set a feeder with traps. If there is a creek nearby I also set them along the creek nearest the feeder, road going in to my stand, etc. I used to trap as a young man so I have a lot of traps from those days. Mix of steel leg traps, live traps, conibear bucket sets, snares, and more recent years several dog proof and soup can traps. At first it was not unusual for me to catch 5 a night in the area of one feeder. Last week I gang set traps at my main stand for two nights and only caught one coon off the nearby creek and I am not seeing them on my game cam pictures so my plan is working. If your going to trap them, I would recommend picking up at least a half dozen dog proof or conibear bucket sets to set up in the area each time to get the best result for the effort and time. One trap will not get you very far.
Good Luck
