I would. I prefer a nice 30# to 60# pig over any buck deer. They keep my freezer full while I wait for a nice buck.

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

Personally, I'd miss them greatly, but I understand that's not everyone's experience. We have three hay fields that they do some damage to, but we also get free pecan-fed, free-range pork throughout the year. It's not a bad tradeoff!

I've already commented 'No'. They're on camera every night...at every feeder. Huge rats is what they are.

I would miss them like I would miss getting kicked in the nuts.

I vastly prefer them to venison….

Not really.
While I have and do actively hunt them, after the first few hundred, it's not as much fun.....said no hunter ever.

My parents and relatives had hog farms during 60's and 70's and they aren't hard to raise.
They are hard to keep contained and after a few get out guess what?
So I can't see them totally disappear but have noticed they are not around as much as civilization closes in around CenTex.

I have to admit I'd miss hunting, shooting, and eating pigs but not the destruction. They truly are a menace.

I would have loved to have had hogs on the ranch I hunted as a kid back in the 60's.
There were only deer and very few coyotes as most ranchers raised sheep and goats back then, and drove around with guns in their rear window gun racks, and shot coyotes on sight.
Things changed when the wool and mohair business dried up, and ranchers sold out completely, or partially sold their land to developers, and old timers died off and the kids didn't want to mess with being ranchers.
A lot of them then turned to leasing to hunters, and introducing exotics and hogs as an easy way to attract hunters.
Where I now hunt we are overrun with hogs.
They've been shot, trapped, and even been shot from helicopters, and you wouldn't know it.
Hunting isn't going to do away with them, and it might slow them for a while, but they come back just like fleas.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

This right here.

But a lot of the answers on here are VERY discouraging and tell me we'll never get rid of hogs. Billions of dollars in damages every year from a non-native species (just as long as it's not in MY backyard!), who out-compete/destroy native animals and habitats... but "they're SO fun to shoot and taste pretty good too." That's just great. rolleyes

This has been going on now for about 30 years and I hate to think of all the money and time I have invested in battling them. They are a scrounge.

Pretty much sums it up for me on my thoughts as well.

Thought of this thread yesterday as I was shredding a pasture. Would like to have the people who think hogs are great to have around come drive the tractor for an hour.
I bet they might change their mind.

Hunting won't do it anymore than trapping and hog dogs. The simple reason is because we don't have a full court press across the landscape. You can hunt/trap/hog dog this property or that property or helicopters may cover thousands of acres, but their range stops somewhere and that is where the hogs will be that will repopulate the area last cleared of hogs.

It would be nice to see a reduced population. So farmers and ranchers don't have to deal with as much, or any, devestation to their land. I don't believe they're going anywhere and are here to stay. Obviously.
But, when times get tough(er), plenty of porkers to put in the freezer and keep you alive.

Hell no ! I despise them ! Maybe you have to be a landowner and not just a hunter but that’s the way I feel.

If you had your yard torn up like we have here at Lake Graham you would definitely want every SOB killed.
So I vote NO
