South Dakota non resident opener for pheasant is 10/15. Anybody going? Any bird reports around the Mitchell area?

I will be there for their 7th year in a row. Hunting Res land west river. I have never failed to shoot my limit on a day up there. I love it.

I was way north and west of there chasing chickens. Hot, dry, and super jumpy birds. Couldn't hardly carry enough water for the dogs. Killed birds, but worked really hard at it. Left two days early cause I'm not mad enough at them to hunt in 75 degrees with no water.
Thought I was going to loose a pup that jumped a deer and got hot. I had a tracker on him but no e-collar as he's normally not a big runnin dog. That's when we went home.
Note to self...need to trash break a pup.

Just got back from Oacoma area west of Mitchell. Mixed results based on very dry and warm days last week. The birds were probably there but we averaged 2/day with a group of purty damned good shots and dogs. Corn, CRP, Grass and Cedars mix. All ponds were nearly dry to bone dry. That said I enjoyed the hunting and we NEVER hunt pen raised birds.

If there is rain/snow and the temps come down to 30s to 50s the hunting should be good for good dogs.
