While I enjoy duck hunting, I have no interest in shooting what shows up at my pond, next to my house. Mostly it's been an odd duck of some kind that lands, then gets run off by my pet geese and ducks. Nothing too exciting or even interesting until two months ago, when a pair of Whistling Ducks showed up. They where here every day for a month, then there was a dozen here every day. Over the weeks, that number climbed to 30 or so. Then it went back down to a dozen for the last two weeks until yesterday, when 31 showed up. This morning, there was 100 of them!!!!! They are a lot of fun to watch, the tend to stand around at the edge of the water, either in it, or just out of it. They whistle constantly in the morning and evening, but tend to sleep during the middle of the day. At last light, they all take off, making a massive amount of noise with all of them whistling at the same time. They circle the pond 2 or 3 times, and fly off to the North. In the morning, they are back. Usually in and around my barn, stealing the Fancy Scratch for my chickens. Has anybody had anything like this happen to them? ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/09/full-53476-363658-img_2037.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/09/full-53476-363659-img_2031.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/09/full-53476-363660-img_2036.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/09/full-53476-363661-img_1598.jpg)

Once they are comfortable somewhere they will continue to come, especially if there is food! They will likely leave for Mexico/Central America when it gets cold.

Rival duck gang moving in on new territory. Nothin you can do man, unless you want to start a war. Just hunker down. Once the chickens are tapped out, they'll move on and you can count your blessings you survived.
No matter how high a duck flies a hammer still breaks a window.

I’ve always wanted to get one for the wall. Never see them except in our local muni ponds.

I caught some a while back on my game camera eating corn out of my deer feeder. Took me a while to figure out what they were. 😁

We have them here on Lake Bob Sandlin in early spring apparently for hatching more. Don't see them past May or so.

I have seen and heard a number of them on cedar creek lake in the summer. Gone before the season starts.

They are pretty big ducks from what I remember.
A buddy has a place in Mount Pleasant and we shot about 5 of them one morning.
Totally random to find them there.
Had a little boykin to fetch them for us.
Great water dogs.
