With my arrow flinging brothers, thought we'd be seeing some harvest pics by now. Have seen one harvested Sika pic in Bowhunting thread so far. For those in field this weekend, what are you all seeing in terms of whitetail numbers and quality?

I am just not seeing any shooters this year just yet

A few buddies are reporting the same

And I've got acorns EVERYWHERE

Bow hunting in Texas is almost always very slow. Warm temps and lots of acorns are usually the reason.

Our big deer are still grouped up for the most part and not moving far from their bedrooms and I don’t like getting to close to those areas this early so until they split up I’m staying out of the woods. The smaller deer are sparring now so it won’t be long before things pick up. I’ve been seeing a few bigger deer out roaming around during the middle of the day so a few of them are warming up. I’d say within the next 7-10 days it should fire up and the non existent shooters everyone’s missing will be smiling for the cameras roaming through looking for a date.

It just started raining at my place in the last month, so the new green has got them scattered compared to a few months ago.

Sat yesterday afternoon, few yearling bucks, does with fawns and one mature buck that I have no interest in shooting. Twice had hogs come in but they sensed something was up and skedattled.

Gonna get in a few more sits this coming week but I’m in no hurry unless the right deer shows up.

IME bow season can be the perfect time to get a good buck as most have very predictable patterns prior to the rut and pressure is low. Can’t kill then if your not out there

acorns everywhere at my place. I set up on a travel corridor last night and watched a few nice bucks feeding deeper in the timber than expected. They had no reason to go far. A ton of my pecans are drying out early and dropping as well. That usually keeps the deer happy and away from my stands. Oh well, still great weather this weekend to be in the stand. Great evenings for burgers over a fire, and it was awesome wearing a sweatshirt in the mornings.

plenty of season left.

4-10 on that, probably why I've never seriously picked it up in all these decades of hunting. Hard for me to get jazzed up and spends hours in 80s-90s degree weather. More enjoy when highs are 70s or cooler. Just felt like we'd see more pics by now as in prior years.

If you would have seen some of the deer I’ve seen in October you would change your mind.

Keep in mind MLD rifle season runs concurrent to general bow season. Look at the big deer they shoot during MLD.

Sure, it’s hot. But October hunting certainly has its advantages.

But a month long head start is just the teeny tiny tip of the bowhunting iceberg.

over the many years on our lease we have killed many of our trophy bucks during October and early November - they are still in their patterns and show up at the feeders that we have on camera - only issue is I usually have to sit in the stand with shorts on and my boots off it is so hot

You can't fix stupid

Had 2 sounders of hogs come in opening morning, the first one before good shooting light. Going to shoot every pig I see till I can get my pen put around the feeder. Deer seem to be focusing on acorns so I will be hunting a different stand midweek.
This one was around 100#, corn fed and lots of fat and didn't stink so she in aging above ice now.

I should have started shooting does yesterday morning. One in the morning, one in the evening. Other plans have interfered. Maybe later this week.

The bucks are fighting but still hanging together for a few more weeks. The big shooter has already disappeared of course. Have some legal bucks but none I want for my "buck" of the year. Plenty of doe this year for a change, I suppose I ought to kill some meat.
Helped the neighbor sight in his crossbow yesterday so he will be calling me tonight probably to help him take care of the deer. We agreed he would save the big six for my wife and I would save the big eight for him. That leaves me with a hopeful rut buck.

Just like Jesus, sometimes you gotta kill some hogs.

Rifle seasons opened up here for many areas. Spouse and I both have additional whitetail tags but in different areas.
He hunted this weekend but didn't see any WT, just small muley bucks.
I get to hunt the ranch this coming weekend for my WT and hoping the rancher's wife didn't run them off riding around while they elk hunted.
We have a couple of decent bucks hanging around and the spouse may try to take one of them later in Oct when general deer opens too.

Elk hunting also this weekend and hoping the bull we've been seeing is still around also. A nice tender cow would be great though too. We have 4 elk tags between us to try and get at least one or 2 filled for meat.

I killed 4 tanks of gas, and a bottle of Jack Daniels at the ranch this past weekend. Nothing worth shooting.
