I donated this feeder to science to see if it could with stand the bears. So far so good but the big ones haven't showed up yet.

They are doing very well out there, me and my son walked up on one asleep in a creek last Dec, was one of the scariest things that has ever happened to me. Luckily it ran the other way and didn't charge us. I needed a change of pants after that!

Cool. Just doesn't look like the typical bear country. Are those considered Mexican Black bears?

Thats cool. I wonder if there would ever be a huntable population in my lifetime (40yrs old) with the bear coming from the south and the bears coming from the northeast?

I know they're in that part of Texas but just amazes me that they are in that type of landscape. I have some hogs on my place in East Texas that would eat that rock before they ripped those fasteners off that lid to get at the food!

I have seen black bears in the Clarksville Texas area before.

I hope we rebuild a population that is huntable by state regs in the near future. Will likely be a draw system in parks though.

I am not afraid of much out in the brush and even rattlesnakes and hogs don't bother me..........but that would scare the livin' piss out of me if I walked up on one in the dark going to my stand. roflmao

They come in from South & West (Mexico), North (Oklahoma) and East (LA). I'm too old (59) that there will be a huntable population in my lifetime. I'd be thrilled if I could just see one. But Young County is way too far west from where they come in from Oklahoma and too far east for the Mexico population. Now if the Washita Mountains in Oklahoma would just get a population of them then at 100 miles I'd be in their possible range.

Bears are a PITA. They tear stuff up. And not like hogs. Feeders, campsites, buildings and anything they think may be tasty. Doubt their population will ever rival hogs but ask the boys where bears are abundant.

It is cool seeing them when hunting and they do taste good! I wouldn’t mind a season on them. The honey bears are creeping in here in the east too.

Yup. I remember deer hunting in the Great Dismal Swamp in SE Virginia back in 2000, which at least used to have a nice black bear population. I was hunting from a wooden ladder stand strapped against a tree and the ladder had all kinds of claw and bite marks.

The next morning, I was in a different location up a tree in a climber and I had seen a few deer. But at about 10am, I hear some rustling in a tree about 20 yards behind me, and I turned to see a juvenile bear climbing down. I'm betting I treed him on my walk in. He hit the ground, walked a few yards and saw a squirrel poking around. The bear took off after the squirrel and vanished.

Pretty cool to see a bear in the wild, but I'm not sure how I'd like a huntable bear population sharing my deer hunting grounds. I know I wouldn't like them tearing up my stands, feeders, and cams.
