Back 25 years ago, we used to have a heck of a time hunting them around the house
IDK if their flight pattern has changed or what but I rarely see them anymore
I have went 3 times in the past 3 years and shot 1 time total...

Never done it. Seems like a lot of work for little gain ... like crawdad fishing/cooking/eating.
Pass the gravy.

They make ammo specifically for hunting for a reason!

When I was younger I loved it, I went to my ranch in Coleman County and didn’t even bring a gun, I had work I wanted to get done and didn’t bother with hunting, I brought a friend along he did pretty good.

Used to really enjoy opening weekend. Argentina sort of ruined it for me here. But it was fun.

Funny story after I was the one that started this thread. Headed out out to the lease to move a feeder and fill up my buddies feeder. He told me to bring my shotgun. Why? Really don't ever see any birds out there anyhow. Just in case he says. Filled his feeder around 6 that evening, and noticed birds flying all over. Went down and posted up on the other side of the tank and I was able to get 8 birds. He's a better shot than I am, and he got his limit. Sunday afternoon, I shot 2 bullfrogs with homemade 357 snake shot. Guess I have to change the title to this thread.

For me dove hunting is just sort of a fun openner to fall/hunting season in general. I like deer/hog hunting much more than bird hunting. Its not real often that i have a place to go but when i do its fun. I'm the only one in my house who will really eat dove...the others enjoy deer and such but not dove so much. IF i get a few birds or as much as one limit a year its usually enough for me.

Take that rod and real behind you in the picture and put on a 4 inch red plastic worm with and exposed hook. Then cast it to within 6 inches of the bullfrogs, twitch it a couple of times, set the hook and hold on. They fight like a small bass and lots of fun to catch.

But I had never thought about frogs on a hook... I've caught some turtles that way, but never a big old bullfrog. I bet it's a hoot!

My daddy always picked the doves, and cut them in half, mama would roll them in flour and brown them then smother them in gravy, it was so good. I have never breasted a dove in my life. I’m wanting a mess of doves now.

I look forward to it every year. Get to see some folks I don’t see any other time. It’s always great fellowship. Also, I like to bring the kids. They like the action and they have a good time. It’s the first signal that cooler weather and Fall is around the corner.

I enjoy dove hunting, it’s always great to get out with buddies no maters the reason. I am waiting to get my residency for Texas before buying my hunting license. Also hoping to start finding folks that don’t mind letting someone hunt their land. Probably wouldn’t pay to hunt dove, I don’t enjoy it that much.

life used to start with dove season. Never missed the season opening hunt. had my group of friends, i set up all the hunts. great times. missed the last 4 years, my friends and i have gotten older, slower, kinda lost it. last few hunts the outfitters over filled the fields. most of the other hunters were idiots, no regard for the hunt, mostly drunk as he77, acting like a bunch of bad azz . Don't get me wrong, I love having ice cold beers after the hunt while cleaning birds. guess im just getting to the lazy, old fart stage

I dove hunted a few times growing up, but just never got hooked. I was probably in the wrong spot with the wrong people.

I used to go every chance I got but now I've slowed down to two or 3 times. One trip is with a few buddies and we've hunted together for the last 16 years. That's the only one I don't miss.
Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

Used to go every chance also. Had a lab, that was the best part not having to fetch my own birds. Lab died, got into pointers and quail hunting. Actually did kill 3 dove in Montana week before last. That $50 migratory tag was the cheapest dove hunt in years.

Turkey is the only thing with feathers I like to hunt. Just never got into dove hunting, and have never tried quail hunting. I'm mostly content hunting four legged critters.
