I know it's generally good to hunt duck in rough conditions. But what about dove? It looks like lots of rain forecasted for this weekend. I figure the fronts would move dove around??

If the dove are already there the hunt will be OK. Birds like to ride a north wind to migrate. But then again it's doves, they are hard to figure out. Been selling Dove hunts 22 years, and I can't pattern them.

I hunt freer, Texas. I find heavy thunderstorms will run them off.

A light rain while hunting won't bother them too much. The problem around my area is the August rains have caused all the grain on the ground to germinate.

If it's raining and cloudy, hunt all day.

It hurts bad if you’re hunting over water. In the Sandhills we used to crack open a valve on an oil tank and that little pool of water would bring the dove in droves. A rain in the dry part of Tx hurts dove hunting bad.

I had the best of hunt of my life in Gainesville Texas 1986 temperature opening day dropped something like 30 or 40゚ We were hunting in the steady rain. It was like South America or something... insane. Don't even want to tell you guys how many birds this dumb high school kid got that day.

This right here is what happened to me. Just like a light switch, here yesterday, hard rain last night, gone today.

Rain is the godsend to [censored] outfitters who don't have birds, but still take your money. "(but they were there before the rains came)"

bs

Other than that its just water.

If you are hunting at a tank waiting for them to come in you are SOL.

Hurts, we had so much rain yesterday afternoon we barely made it back to the blacktop road. It really came down. You could have gone tubing down the ditch.

It hurts the access when you have to drive unimproved dirt roads. It can also dent the pocketbook when you try and don't make it. Pic from several years ago in Fannin County. It was about a 10' drop out of the driver's side door to the creek bed. [Linked Image]

^^^^YIKES^^^ It did here, all the corn that the combine missed and or dropped was on the ground and the dove were knocking it out. All this rain makes it look like they planted another crop of corn, no kernels for em, now they are looking for sunflowers and dove weed and aint much of them here. BUT the rain was much needed!!!!!
