Had been wanting to build a new deck. Wanted to build it in the spring or at least chip away at it monthly but the 4x4x16 posts were $60 back in March. They finally came back down to $20 so I got this done earlier in the month. The plan is for more posts to go on the other side of the camper and tin roof over the deck and camper. Demo’ing the old deck was a pain as the wife’s grandpa built it not long ago and he did not build it to be taken apart…but without being elevated it didn’t drain so it was warping plus had squatters starting to stay underneath it

Put it up just in time too because one of the few days I was doing this it rained and I developed a leak in the camper…thankfully I had a 30’x50’ tarp in the back of the Excursion! It covers the whole space and is still folded in half

Deck is 24’ x 8’. I plan on running the roof with a 18-24” overhang over the deck for pulling next to and unloading groceries in case it’s raining etc. Also the roof over the deck is put higher so when we get a new camper it’ll have plenty of room

Next trip on Labor Day weekend I’ll roof it as well as power it with switches/plugs/fans/lights/etc.

Didn’t take a pic of the reinforcing I did on the back 8’ section as I’ll have fridges/outdoor kitchen setup back there

The deck looks awesome. Is that tarp the plan for this season or do you have other plans for a roof? How far is the deck from the camper? It looks like it is just about far enough for a few beers to equal a broken leg.

Thanks all on the compliments!

Rat - it’ll get a tin roof and hand rails 😉

Kry - hoping I’ll be able to get those pics next weekend!

You could almost close it in and ditch the camper now!

If they'd let us build permanent buildings, I'd have gone that route! Only one guy has a little cabin type structure, think it was the original house for the landowners' family from eons ago

Got back to camp to make progress this weekend. Got the roof over the patio portion of the deck. Still need to get the footer bridging done but it’s up and secure. Also got outlets on all posts with room for a handrail/bar top all the way around and installed some really bright shop lights. $39 from Lowe’s, 7000K dimmable…good thing they’re dimmable cuz man they are bright. Gotta get the dimmer installed next trip and the handrails

I must say, that's a good looking deck you've got. Much bigger than my deck.

Did you trim the bushes to make your deck look bigger?

what did you use to fasten the roof material to the 2x4's? Does it require special screws, or do you just use regular?

Thanks,
Rich

They make metal roof fasteners that have a built on washer with an underlayment type material on the bottom of the washer to secure it and not leak

Cool, thanks. We were looking to use that type or material on a porch we are going to build and I thought there were special screws for it.

Thanks,
Rich
