Had a GW (Mr Stapleton) one time sit and watch me with his binoculars all morning long shoot BWT, I could see him watching me. Boy, talk about being nervous when you pull the trigger. After I killed a few, he then drove down the shore line to check me, made me even more nervous... After he checked my birds, we joked around about others shooting spoonies because they were everywhere, still got his card from that encounter..

You were probably hunting in his spot.

No Steve’s public hunting spots are not accessible to the GP. If Guy was hunting his spot he’d go to jail for poaching.

For a newbie, good to ground check before you head back to the ramp. All newbies should carry this book in their blind bag, I did for years. It’s sits in my office now…

I’m not sure but it’s all teal except for the white tipped wings and ring on its neck.

No hybrids in there, that’s the fancy word for those fascinated with them, and get them mounted. To me they are mutt ducks, it is a hybrid don’t you think?

I’m not sure but it’s all real except for the white tipped wings and ring on its neck.

I was thinking it was real, hybrid, half BWT, half something else, muscovy my guess. Don’t know of another duck with white wings.

I've seen robins, grackles, etc with white heads or other areas, partial leucism that wouldn't necessarily involve any hybridization. That would be my guess.

Yeah that totally makes sense. I guess where I hunt any time I see a spoonie it’s flying solo or as a pair. But I can definitely see how they’d get confused.

I don't think confused is the right word, miss ID is what it is. It can easily happen to the most experienced duck hunters. You are never gonna learn how to ID birds until you start splashing them into the deeks.. Its just risk you got to take, the better you get, less risk, it is a risky hobby to get into. ID them best you can in the air, then ground check them, use the LaMaster Method if you need to.
