Their website doesn't give enough info without an email address. I don't do that anymore. We are all sick of spam email and phone calls. I guess I could call them from our land line that is just for 911 and a cell phone failure, and hasn't been answered in over five years. However, Tell me about it. Anybody have any positive or negative feedback? How much is it for just me and my wife?

Do you want a rookie or retired lawyer?
If you " got " somebody, do you want mediocre?

If you " got " somebody, do you want mediocre? My close relative attorney retired. I guess your reply reminded me to call my insurance agent. I'm not 100% sure what all my homeowner's policy and umbrella covers. I guess the bottom line is something is better than nothing, I guess. Hence the reason for the post.

I would NOT use one of the attorneys they provide if you kill someone in self defense. Trust me. First hand experience.

lol. I haven’t blasted since the 90s.
This is with people who kill people using self defense. and got terrible representation. A couple lawyers advised them over the phone. I think on was drunk. If you shoot someone, call a real lawyer. If it adds up, you go home.

Good legal representation is expensive. Bad legal representation is really expensive.

The initial statements you make to law enforcement can be critical.

The initial statements you make to law enforcement can be critical. Which is why you answer typical contact ID information, be cooperative and then politely say "I don't want to make any statements until I speak with an attorney". Ideally you already have a couple of preferred ones researched. Then meet up with your attorney, tell them the complete truth, and follow their recommendations. Don't worry about spending a night or two in the pokie if needed before meeting with a good lawyer. The police have their job to do, to see if a crime was committed. They just may not have your best interest, your future in mind.

Massad Ayoob appears to have many years of experience in just these sorts of issues. I've read some of his material off and on for probably over thirty years.
He has too many Youtube videos to find the one I have in mind. However, he has one where he says something like "It used to be to pretty much don't say zip" until you talk to an attorney. He now recommends calling 911 immediately, unless you are busy giving CPR to the one shot. He said that when you call explain very very briefly what happened and that you will cooperate with law enforcement.
He does give a LOT of dos and don'ts and what NOT to say. He recommends something like you feared for your life. You did what you had to do to STOP THE THREAT, not Kill, etc. I think he recommended having the gun well away from you, unloaded, slide back or cylinder open, things like that.
I would be interested in what our LEOs on here would tell us to do. I think we all know not to just run our mouths. Any recommendations gentlemen?

Self defense is not that complicated. You can’t be armed and provoke a confrontation, you cannot be committing a crime, you must explain your self defense claim.
If it was cut and dry. I wouldn’t be to concerned. Example, you are out to dinner and get robbed and kill the guy. You can explain some things, they take your gun, you go home and it’s referred to grand jury and you never hear anything until it’s no billed. Then you get your gun back.
When you need an attorney is if this will become political, if it’s not straight forward. Then I would consult with an attorney, give my statement and go home. You will most likely want to assert a claim at this point. Otherwise, if you say nothing they will only go by what witnesses say. Maybe even accomplices.
If you are wrong and feel it. Wait for a good attorney and go with what you feel is right. It’s your life at the end of the day.
I’ve seen straightforward cases cost people 50k because they listen to unnecessary attorney advice. To get the attorney paid. Knowing they do nothing.
What is said on 911 is important. Get on 911 and get off. Rendering care also is considered.

I signed up for Texas Law Shield, which is also US Law Shield. Benefits are decent. Main thing is, you get someone on the line right after you hang up your 911 call and the process of representation and bail money begins right then. Also, never say anything when you dial 911 that might not be in your favor. Most people don’t know that they are being recorded before the 911 call is answered. It has come back to bite some people. I have a card with the number and a list of instructions on what to do or not do until I consult with legal representation.
I just hope I never need to use it.

This is kind of how I see carry insurance. The amount I pay USCCA yearly is less than what my attorney charges per hour. Supposedly I have no limit on legal expense coverage through USCCA. I get a decent gun magazine in the mail every month. If something were to happen 1st call is to 911, 2nd call to my attorney cell , 3rd call to USCCA. Hopefully LE takes my weapon, I get to go home and things work out without too much hassle. Worse case I leave in handcuffs and sit until my attorney shows up. I'm not the easiest person to communicate with face to face. I mumble a lot and also can't hear worth a chit. I typically smile, nod a lot and say things like "hmm, no chit" when I can't hear somebody. So it would probably be in my best interest not to say a whole lot before I have an attorney to make sure I'm hearing what they're asking and they are understanding what I'm saying. If there is hassle post incident that looks like its gonna drag out then I have options as far as attorneys go, both prepaid and hourly and would make a decision on how to move forward.
Shoot. Eat. Repeat.
