I sit here at work thinking about all the shotguns being shot, mojos mojoing, dove being killed, etc,etc..

I'll be there first thing in the morning. Hope the fileds are not all shot out.

It ain't easy being me.

Best dove hunt I have had in years. Hunted after work; hree hunters; 36 birds; all mourning dove. Hunted near Venus. I was a guest, invited by the next-door-neighbor of a friend of mine. Talk about right place at the right time!

Finished my 15th bird last night about 6:30 up in Nocona with lightening all around. I sat in the truck for about 30 minutes so I wouldn't get struck. I heard the morning was very good with about everyone getting limits. My mojo was the envy of the field. That thing flat out works wonders. Took a buddy for his first hunt ever. He got him a couple so he was very happy. I got my first triple. 1,2,3 and all were easy to find.

Breckenridge - Morning and afternoon both good. A good amount of birds flying. Saw that rain and lightining in Graham but all we got was some sprinkles. Had a good time.

I will look but I just had to ask - is the limite 12 or 15? I understood it was 12!

It hasn't stopped raining here in Crosby county since Friday night. Hunting was pretty good on Friday, but haven't been able to get out in the field since.

If there were 3 of you and you had 36 you were okay.

North of I-10 from Fort Hancock to Kent, and I-20 from Kent to Fort Worth, and I-30 from Fort Worth to Texarkana the limit is 15 a day.

South of that line, till you get to I-10 coming from Orange to San Antone, and U.S. 90 from San Antone to Del Rio, the limit is 12 a day.

South of that, is the special White-wing dove area and the south zone dove area.

Yes, I know, I am replying to myself.

Lora and I made a 50 or 60 mile circuit this afternoon, from 3:30 till around 6:00. We went thru parts of Parker and Jack counties. We only ran across 1 group of people hunting doves. We found a few areas where there were some doves, saw two locations where there were 50+ doves on the hi-lines. Several long stretches where there were no doves visible, either setting on fences or hi-lines or any birds flying. Over in the area around Whitt they did get some rain.

Hunting just NW of Abilene, there were lots of birds as usual. We got our limits every morning, killing mainly white-wing the 1st day, a mix of ww and mourning the 2nd day and mostly mourning doves on sunday morning. Was warm on Friday, and cooled off Sat and Sunday with the rain holding off during the period. My hunting buddy used a mojo that worked its magic. I used and 'Air-Dove' that worked well as long as there was a sustained breeze of 5-10 mph or more. We hunted mainly between a large field of wheat and sunflowers(that was recently row swatted) and a large stock tank.

Lost of doves in the Vernon, TX area. Shot my limit the 1st and 2nd day so I was done pretty quick. It was cold and rainy up there but they were flying all day. They were in sunflowers, plowed wheat, if you have milo, millet or maize you got the birds too. We did not have anything but sunflowers and plowed wheat but it was good enough.

Sounds like dove heaven. What do you think about the prospects for Aspermont area?

ndhunter,

I never hunted around Aspermont but that part of the state tends to have much better dove hunting than here around Dallas...due to the fact that a major migratory flyway is along and 100 miles either side of a line from Wichita Falls to Laredo.

My guess is that your spot near Aspermont should be quite productive if there is plenty of food and water nearby as well as roosting trees to hold the local birds for another month. I always have the best luck hunting around wheat and sunflower fields. Good luck...

Hey ND, when you going to Aspermont? We'll be in Spur early next week which is just about 50 miles to the WNW from there. We don't have a report as we will the first hunting our place. We normally catch birds going to feed on one of the adjoining wheat fields. Our rancher just raises wheat for cows so not much feed left by Sept. It was awesome last year. I can saw don't judge prospects by what you see driving up. I think we maybe saw 3 dove on wires driving up from Dallas and none when we got there but starting about 4 to 5 pm, the flyways open up and they start moving.

Between Jacksboro and Wichita Falls we had about 30
limits shot. No problem.
