My place in east Texas got a quarter of an inch of rain a few days ago. That makes a total of a half-inch of rain since mid-May. I'm losing trees all over. Even the yaupon is looking sick. There is a creek less than half a mile from my property line that has water, so the animals can get water, but there's almost no grass nor leafy forage. There's also been a double handful of days over 100 degrees.....tomorrow is supposed to be 104 F. I would think that would make a hard year for deer. I haven't had my cameras up, but I don't see much sign of wildlife. What is your prediction on the deer population this year?

Same as normal but more responsive to corn. Feel like I have seen them eating things they normally don’t/wouldn’t.

I am seeing some decent bucks in Houston County but I do have two ponds and one creek with some water still in it. Luckily, we got rains in April and May. Of course, I am feeding a lot too and this is drawing in the hogs.

Hauling water as we speak.

More and more oaks are losing their leaves, I’m really worried about them.

The area around the protein feeders look like a feed lot

Still got water in the larger pond, though it hasn’t been this low since the last big drought. Got 2.5” of rain in the last few days so that helps. Even have some grass greening up. As for trees, looks like I’ve lost two oaks. One small one was already looking sick, but there’s a big well shaped one in the side yard that appears to be dead or nearly so. I don’t think rain will save it. Hate to lose it.

As for deer, I swear it looks like we have one new fawn this time. One! Got some nice looking fat and sleek bucks coming to the feeder in back. Decent racks for this area. Overall, I think the deer numbers are down from previous years.

Been seeing quite a few fawns….much more than expected. I’m gonna assume they are all living off protein, because there is not much else in the pasture.

Really dry here, did get a little rain day before last but need a flood. No grass or weeds, oaks have lost or in process of losing their leaves, even seen some brown cedar.

My pecan trees are dumping nuts.

Been through about 60,000 trail cam pics from the last 4 weeks. Usually have 4-6 deer pushing 140. I haven't seen one on camera that would come close. I've identified between 80 and 90 individual bucks and the deer in the 4.5 and older class for the most part appear to be 120" 8 points. We have a couple 10's over 4.5 and several younger than 4.5 that are 10 or 12's but they are in the 110-120" range or smaller. We've had 8" of rain for all of 2022, have one 12-acre lake that's down to about 2-acres and the majority of the 10 or so ponds are completely dry, everything is brown and the pens around our protein feeders look like feed lots as well. We counted 181 deer on 3 spotlight surveys on about 900 acres and will likely have 40 or so tags. Does won't be hard to choose from but deciding which bucks to take this year will be a chore. Have 4 or 5 culls that are easily identified but the rest as far as bucks are concerned will be hard to determine.
