This ammo shoots under 1.5” groups all day with my new hog rig (16” .308).
Does anyone have experience with this particular ammo on adult sized hogs. My concern is that if may not penetrate well enough on larger boars.

Norma 308 Win., 150 grain soft point, Box of 20, Sku: 2422029

No experience with it, but do you have any concerns that Norma's softpoint ammo would perform unsatisfactorily as softpoint ammo?

Haha not really, but I can’t even find this ammo on Norma’s website. I just don’t want to buy it up, only to find out later that it’s more of a “thin skinned game” round. Good to hear from you Brian!

A couple of the guys I hunt with have done very well with 150gr SST's in their 16" 308 AR's. They have taken hogs up to 225 lb or so.

I can't imagine that .308 ammo failing to do the job. We are killing them all day long using calibers with less horse power. I have a 90% drt success rate from 200 yards with my 6.8SPC.

I personally shoot a 16" 308 Win bolt gun as my primary hunting rifle now. I prefer the 150 grain SP, 155 ELD-M, and a few other rounds I play with. It's plenty for basic hunting use with good shot placement.

The Norma ammo works , you won’t get complete pass throughs that’s the only downside

Never shot that exact round, but a 150 gr soft point is a classic cup and core design. I would imagine it would be just about right for pigs.

I wondered where you had been! Doing some searching and this seems to be their generic deer hunting soft point ammo. It should be fine for hogs. I have guys hunting hogs with .308 Varmageddon ammo and being quite pleased. I have no doubt this will out penetrate the Varmageddon on hogs.

No experience with that exact round. I used a 308 to kill hogs years ago and used 150gr SP, usually Federal Powershok as I recall, worked great if I did my part right.

I wouldn't have any worries about a 150 soft point from a 308 penetrating enough on a large boar.

before I rebarreled my Sig Cross to 6creed I shot several hogs with .308 110gr vmax smoking around 3k fps and they had no problems penetrating 180#+ hogs and killing them dead

I don't think I'd worry about any copper jacketed soft point being able to kill hogs from a .308

I appreciate all the replies. Looks like I’ll be sticking with this ammo unless I find something that shoots MOA or better. This stuff also happens to be pretty affordable for a hunting round. Hopefully I’ll be around here more too. Just got on a few thousand acres of corn and rice 45 minutes from my place.

That Norma works fine.

This expensive round hits like a hammer and runs 1 MOA in my very picky .308.

Under 350, this round will pass through drop a second hog in its tracks.

I went to this exact ammo (Norma 308 150gr) after I couldn't get the the federal 165gr. The Norma shoots real well in my Remington 308 acc sd. Killing pigs is all about shot placement. I have not had a problem with deer or pigs with this round. If you will shoot the pigs 1.5" high between the eyes you can shoot pigs with any gun or ammo. At 25 yrds I use suppressed 22 and It kills them dead. Good luck hunting don't be scared about the Norma ammo.

Do a CNS shot and it could be a 22

A lot of time effort, and energy is spent on bullets, cartridges, debates, etc. A 150 gr. SP in .308 will do the job all day long on hogs. And you really don't want a pass through - you want all the bullet energy doing damage. F=MA all day long and the shorter the bullet path, the greater the A number as the mass M is constant = greater force. Some on this board say that has nothing to do with it and they're misinformed. Used it last season, (only ammo I could find at Academy). I have no complaints. Didn't have any long shots (under 120 yards), I dropped every pig I shot. Largest was around 175 though.

I haven't used that particular load but I haven't seen a hog survive any well placed 308 yet.

Well we got 10 the other night. I’ve gotta get used to the weight and trigger of that .308. But it seemed to put them down when I did my part. I appreciate all the replies.
