New to the area and noticed there are a lot of trucks and SUVs with ranch hand style bumpers. I like the look of them but never bought one. I’m assuming they are popular here to protect the truck from deer on the roads? Maybe there are other things I don’t know about as well.

Im coming from Az and we didn’t see too many trucks with these bumpers. I am looking at them now and see Ranch hand and Steelcraft in the range of what I would spend. What is a decent budget friendly bumper?

Thanks

Tough country is a good one. I’d stay away from frontier,.

Just note the heavy bumpers wear front end suspension parts quicker.

Thanks Bobo and BigPig.

I have a 3/4 Ram and it might help smooth out the rough roads. I will look for those online.

I’m a fan of the ranch hand summit series. Great protection and a lot less weight than their traditional front end replacement with the pipe

Cattleman or Gage make ranch hand legend clones for 30-40% cheaper than ranch hand.

Frontier used to suck, but they’ve gotten better. I had one on an older dodge and it was garbage, the one on my ford didn’t bend until like the 4th deer I hit. I think I’m up to 6 now

Steelcraft and fab fours are good too. I don’t have any experience with any of the others that I remember

Welcome to the forum up

I can’t speak about the quality of the other brands listed but the Ranch Hands are build like a tank!!! I’ve hit 4 deer and 2 pigs in my daily driver and aside from one vent cover in a driving light hole you can’t tell I’ve hit anything. I’ve got them on all of our trucks, cheap insurance policy if you do very much driving at night out in the sticks.

welcome welcome

I would suspect the vast majority of the heavy duty front bumpers/replacement are put on more for show than actual need. My current truck has a ranch hand bull nose replacement but it was on it when I bought the truck. These days, I would be much more concerned hitting a feral hog than deer.

Thanks for the info. I haven’t heard of a few of them brands, this gives me more to check out.

My daily drive is to Taylor and I would be on more county roads. I haven’t really seen anything but it seems like a good area for deer. 🤷🏽‍♂️

You are correct, the bumpers are really for show. Probably shouldn’t call them bumpers anymore.

Brush guard is much lighter than a front end replacement.

They are different animals with different prices and weights.

Most people just "need" a brush guard.

Pass the gravy.
