Going to book a meat hunt for a red deer hind. How does red deer compare to other game?

I’ve had whitetail, oryx, blackbuck, axis, hog, sitka, mule deer and nilgai. I didn’t like the mule deer or sitka as much as the the others. Sitka was a buck during the rut so his flavor was a little strong. He is the only one my wife didn’t care for. Mule deer was an old old buck.

The meat is similar to elk. I shot a yearling stag a few years ago it reminded me of the elk I shot in 2015. I think you will like it.

Similar to elk. Cuts from the hindquarter should be roasted or slow cooked vs steaked and grilled as they are tougher than those similar cuts from a whitetail. Backstraps and loins are amazing any way. There is a Large discrepancy in live weight of the animal. A 1.5-2.5yr old hind is a different animal than a mature hind and could weigh 100-200lbs less.

Thanks for the responses. I figured it would be good, especially a hind.

We butchered a cow and some axis does, I really like axis but I thought the red deer cow was better.
She wasn’t old.
