Going to book a meat hunt for a red deer hind. How does red deer compare to other game?
I’ve had whitetail, oryx, blackbuck, axis, hog, sitka, mule deer and nilgai. I didn’t like the mule deer or sitka as much as the the others. Sitka was a buck during the rut so his flavor was a little strong. He is the only one my wife didn’t care for. Mule deer was an old old buck.

The meat is similar to elk. I shot a yearling stag a few years ago it reminded me of the elk I shot in 2015. I think you will like it.
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” ISAIAH 41:10

Similar to elk. Cuts from the hindquarter should be roasted or slow cooked vs steaked and grilled as they are tougher than those similar cuts from a whitetail. Backstraps and loins are amazing any way. There is a Large discrepancy in live weight of the animal. A 1.5-2.5yr old hind is a different animal than a mature hind and could weigh 100-200lbs less.

Thanks for the responses. I figured it would be good, especially a hind.

We butchered a cow and some axis does, I really like axis but I thought the red deer cow was better. She wasn’t old.
