How old do you think this spike is? I think 2.5 I just dont think he is 1.5 based on his body size. And how old do you think that eight pointer is? And score? I was thinking 125 and 3.5 years old. He is tall and has like 2 one inch stickers u cant see that are on the base of his horns. The pics are real small and make him look small. I cant make them any bigger

The spike is a young let him go.
The 8 is 3.5 maybe 4.5-120

I really think that spike is 2.5 based on the fact I have another spike that is so much smaller then him in body and also antlers. His body is pretty built for a 1.5 if thats how old he is.
Yeah that 8 would be close to 13 inches. I am in a AR county and I think I would take the chance bc he will gain inside spread after losing velvet and I think he might make 13 if u measure him higher up. There was a deer just like him that was shot last year that scored 135, i believe it was 4.5 and had same rack maybe 1-2 more inches inside spread and also had 3 one inch stickers

One thing to consider is there are basically three age classes of young spikes .5, 1.5, 2.5
The first two count for the majority-99 percent of all spikes.
Just food for thought

yeah I will make that call in the field if I see him but I think I will let him pass anyways let him grow. I realistically think he would make 12.5 inches. I will post a pic of 2 more spikes I have and I think both are 1.5 but maybe one of them is .5. This will give u a comparison as to how big this one is compared to the other 2. thanks guys

The spike, no matter what his age, is not worth wasting protien on. Plant his butt in the freezer.

Spike is 1.5....and as for the comments regarding shooting apikes anyway....well those are silly uneducated statements. I have a 190 class 4 yr old in the pasture that was a spike at 1.5 and others in trophy classes that were too. One of the factors in growing deer is age as most of us know. Just goes to show patience can be a virtue
Think you can/Think you can't/Either way you're right

The spike would be a dead deer on our property! Body size he is not any smaller than the 8pt. The eight point is 3.5 and will go 13", but not by much. Everybody has different standards on there property though!

Dang doc. what crawled up your but and died? He was asking for opinions and he is getting em. Personally im one of THOSE guys that also believes a spike can be worth saving especially when its only a year and a half old. Sorry i dont have a degree in anything but been hunting for 30+ years and had my own experiances with spikes that proved other wise. I also dont remember anything about over population problems and yes age is a major factor in bigger deer so let him get some age on him then we can find out who is right and who is wrong

I say 12.5 inside. Awesome browtines. Did you know that browtines are the most inheritable trait of a rack in whitetail bucks. He would get a pass at my place just for those brow tines.
