Might have something to do with record profits. Have not seen BP yet. U.S. OIL MAJORS ENJOY ANOTHER MASSIVE QUARTER: Chevron and ExxonMobil reported record earnings this morning on the heels of another quarter characterized by high oil prices and steep refining margins.
Chevron and Exxon reported second-quarter earnings of $11.6 billion and $17.9 billion, respectively, a huge lift for both oil giants compared to Q2 of last year.
For Chevron, that’s a nearly quadrupling of profits from the $3.1 billion it reported a year ago. Exxon's earnings are also up nearly four-fold from the $4.7 billion earned during the same quarter last year.

And that's just at the pump and on an individual level. Doesn't account for increased transportation costs of goods and materials or production costs of everything made from petroleum products. The effect on inflation is huge. But don't worry we aren't in a recession and Joe and Crew have it all under control.
