ENGINE, 2.7L TURBO HIGH-OUTPUT (310 hp [231 kW] @ 5600 rpm, 430 lb-ft of torque [583 Nm] @ 3000 rpm)
Anyone own a Silverado this engine? I've always been a V8 truck guy, but I know these smaller engines can be very good. I won't be towing any heavy loads.

Some people might be forced to get one because of availability. I have ordered a new silverado with the 5.3 70 days ago, as of yesterday it has still not hit the production line. I'm pretty good at being patient, but i am getting ready for it to be here.
You have to remember, they might not be drinking as much as we are.

I will say this about most of today's turbo motors-watch for low rpm/off boost lag. My wife's Honda CR-V has 190hp, but that turbo 1.5 is near dead just off idle and at part throttle sometimes. It will catch you if you pull out at the wrong time. Always remember the size of the motor WITHOUT the turbo, because off boost that is what you'll be using. 95% of the time it's not a problem but there's been a time or two when if left me in a small lurch. If I was going to be stuck with a turbo gasser in a large vehicle, I'd probably special order it with the lowest gearset I could get so that it will rev/spool up faster.
Drive it first, Buzz, and if you buy one, spend a lot of time in it learning how it drives.

You will have to school me on this. If you order a new vehicle, do you have to buy it when it arrives? Do you have to give a down payment when ordering? How does all this work?

Thanks guys just shopping around. not much in stock, trucks arriving are usually spoken for. If the buyer backs out the sales guy usually has a list of customers to start calling. Truck won't last long. You should never give a non-refundable deposit. Most are refundable.
At the car wash this morning, I saw a new Chevy ZR2 Silverado. Chevys got a winner here. They are VERY hard to find and are VERY expensive, pushin $80K.

I have one as my daily driver. Great gas mileage, plenty of towing capacity for my light loads and decent pep when needed.

Some require a small non refundable deposit, others don't. There is no obligation to purchase it once it arrives at the dealer. If you don't purchase it, many will add a "market condition" mark-up and sell it above MSRP.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

Sounds like they stole a page from the Ford playbook. I've got the ford 2.7, and it's got more grunt off the line and more acceleration than my old 5.4 f150. I'd consider it for sure.

Txshter said same thing about his vs 5.3. He has had both the ford and Chevy 2.7. He doesn’t keep them long enough for a true longevity test. But he is rough on them and they hold up for atleast 100k

Ask me again in a few years.

If you're concerned about the Silverado's small engine get a Corvette which has a much bigger engine.

The ford one is mainly what I’ve heard about it seems. Yeah and better Beware of all year model Ford’s 1.5L 1.6L 2.0L with the Ecoboost Engines. A lot of them eat coolant. Blocks are bad and pass coolant into cylinder chamber's. Ask a Ford House mechanic.

Geez! I may do like unclebubba and keep my truck another 100,000 miles. Maybe I don’t need a new twin turbo Tundra. I’m starting to fear the thought of small turbocharged engines, though I do have one in the RV.

For a city truck that won’t see much towing it will be fine. I test drove one and it was surprisingly powerful for what it was. I’ve got a few friends with them and they haven’t said anything bad about it but they also rarely use it as a truck.

I’m starting to fear the thought of small turbocharged engines, though I do have one in the RV. Change the oil regularly, and they should easily last you 200k. As far as I'm concerned, they're just broken in at 100k.
